Sebastopol Goose leg issues

Im so sorry. Hopefully there is still a rehab plan to help this gosling. If he had to lose the leg he could still have a good I life I just don’t think he’d be able to free range with only one leg. Of course the cost is something else that has to be under consideration. Are you anywhere close to a teaching veterinary school they might consider giving you a cost reduction just since it would help with teaching.

I am having a similar issue with my Embden goose, only I did not identify it as tendon slip right away and didn't locate a vet to see him until over a week later. The vet is NOT an avian specialist, but has treated farm birds for injuries, being egg bound, and other things since we live in a small, rural farming community. She said that putting birds under anesthesia is difficult and she didn't offer much information about surgical options because I asked thinking the plan would be similar to what your vet offered you.

She did offer laser therapy... in her practice she has successfully treated a variety of animals with the laser and finds it especially effective for lameness. She is also giving him meloxicam, which is an anti-inflammatory in hopes that it will loosen the tendon enough to move it back into place. There is a thread on this page that had lots of pictures and good suggestions on braces for a gosling leg that may work better for you: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/gosling-leg-problem-please-help.1536131/

Thank you. We did do some laser therapy as well and he has been getting meloxicam for several weeks with no improvement :(.

Thank you.

We did try the laser therapy jt didn’t help. We’ve also been giving meloxicam since this whole thing went down. He isn’t swollen anymore but there is no way that tendon will ever go back into place. She wanted to try a surgical correction but honestly at this point I don’t think it will help. For the meantime he gets around surprisingly well. I’m a little concerned how things will be when he’s bigger but we are playing it by ear.
