sebright thread

Pics
With sebrights you can second guess yourself alot - the comb screams boy but sebrights are hard to sex even with a bright red comb it could still be a pullet as weird as it sounds...how's the personality?

Right now, he/she is attached to a sizzle hen I have. Sleeps under her wing and follows her around. The chick is noisier than my hens....but they are a sizzle and a silkie and are EXTREMELY quiet. Other than having a loud "peep" the chick is very friendly. I agree...the red comb makes me think boy...but then I look at pictures of young pullets....and then think it might still be a pullet. Either way it is fine. More for the sake of curiosity than anything else!!

Its up to fate for now - keep us updated with pictures for sure! (if ya want to anyway)

It's interesting that so many are having problems with their sebrights. I've had golden and silver and never had any problems. I currently have a trio of silvers. Mine are very friendly, to the point of acting like docile little bantam buff cochins. I feed them earthworms and go in with them just to hold them everyday. They are very sweet. They are flighty when they see me coming to open the door to their lot because they get all excited to see me. But flightiness a characteristic of the breed. My rooster, Sterlyn is trained to fly up to the roosting box when I signal him to do so in the evening. My two hens, Jumana and Ariana are getting there. They look forward to me coming to visit and won't come out of their lot, even if I try to entice them to do so. They know they're safe in there. This is a breed that takes patience, understanding, and time. They so look forward to treats. I've only had this trio since April 6, 2012. They were skiddish at first, but now, well, they're my babies.
Hope others out there can have as much joy out of theirs as I do mine.

Handling is key. It's no mystery. My brother has a silver that he's ready to take a shovel to because it's so aggressive, he doesn't get it after 10 times and a couple visits that it NEEDS attention. Maybe he's a wimp and is afraid of getting spurred. I corner it and walk around holding it. Mine....as pictured in my profile has never attempted to spur me, even when handling his hens or collecting eggs.

You know it is funny, but the little chick I posted pics of was very attached to me when we first got it and my hens were afraid of it and it would run after me if I tried to leave it. After about a week they have adopted it, and now it is very reluctant to leave the "flock" and wants to be with the hens at all times. I told my girls we have to make sure that we handle it a lot so we dont get a bird who doesnt want to be around humans or is aggressive. Hopefully this will do the trick since it seems like mine is a little roo too.

Another "what sex is this Sebright" post. I had my youngsters turned out in the dog kennel this weekend, so I tried to grab a few photos. I did not get good photos, so I'm not sure you will have enough information to sex, but nevertheless, here they are. She/he is around 2.5ish months or so and is the only survivor of my 3 Sebrights I "rescued" that were already ill.
