**~~>>Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon<<~~**all poultry welcome!

From what I just read it seems that a cross is possible, though hatching rate particularly for hens covered by a guinea is very low.
http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/Guineas/BRKGuinHybrid.html

I have no idea if that information is accurate. I am most certainly not a geneticist nor do I have knowledge of the evolutionary path of guineas vs chickens. It may be that they are like Horse/Donkey hybrids, closely enough related to breed but the off spring may or may not be able to breed in the F2 generation.
Wish I knew where I saw it, but there are groups of breeders who purposely cross them for meat. Man I wish I knew where that was!!!!! The hatch rate is low and the chicks are infertile, but they had a ton of pics...Geez where did I see that???

So my eggs from SilkieSensation got here hours ago and I have been trying to get a video up and ready for everyone to see. Here it is, with me in all my goofy glory!

Very cute. I can't get over how much you look like my best friend from junior high little sister. LOL

Good to know. And I also read the Miracle thread. Don't expect much, but will be interesting to see if anything happens. At least we know the old gal still got it! (And with a much younger fella too.)

I am never that neat when I get eggs in the mail. I just dump all the packing peanuts out, I have no patience, I want to see the eggs and can never wait.

One of mine is very protective of her space too. I have a crappy video of her on guard duty chasing geese out of the pasture but it probably won't work.

Very cute babies! You know horses are pretty addictive too. My herd went up to seven pretty quickly in the same way,

I used to say horses are like potato chips! As it turns out, so are chickens. Ahahahah

You go girl! Now THAT is the way to do it. My first was 17 years older than me (physically, not emotionally hoo-boy) - would much rather it the other way around.

Very cool video - thank you for posting. Good luck with the eggs!

So my turkey eggs for this hatch-a-long are incubating under one of my broody muscovy ducks and I'm getting a little aggravated with her. She keeps moving her nest - not across the coop - just inches at a time. And when she does, inevitably one of the turkey eggs (no, never one of her eggs) gets left behind. I can only hope I'm finding them and putting them back under her before they are too chilled. Grrr. I ordered another incubator last night (can we say "hatch-a-holic"?) so as soon as it gets here, I am taking all of those turkey eggs back and putting them in the new incubator. She just lost turkey hatching privileges!!!

Another muscovy went broody last night - in a burn barrel full of broken glass left by the previous owners. Can you just imagine those poor little ducklings hatching in a nest of broken glass? So I moved her and her eggs to my hoop coop, expecting her to fight the move but this morning she was sitting prim and proper in her doghouse in the hoop coop. Apparently she agrees this is a much better arrangement. She only had 4 eggs so I gave her 19 more. I placed them near her and went to check a little while ago and can't see a single egg so I guess she has them all tucked under her. Hopefully she'll do a better job with them than the other broody is doing with my turkey eggs.

I love egg art! I really wish I had the skill and patience required to do it! ALAS, I have neither!

You need patience but little skill. I am a total science nerd... I did not get ANY art genes and cannot draw a stick figure (although I make some nice looking chemical moieties thanks to organic chemistry). I use rub ons.

nah.. it's easy.. you can decorate them with rub-ons

I paint 99% of mine (cheated and used rub-ons for ones that were nothing but words)

depending on what kind of sealant you use would determine if the markers would work or not.. but if in doubt test them on a "junk" egg to see!

lots of ideas in that thread too!

Yes, that's the thread, thanks for finding it.

OH thank you for the tip-- A little different than my method with bigger holes. I have the syringes and needle ( God knows with so many large animals) and my kids can do this with allthe pretty colored eggs we have . . . . .yeah!!! THanks SCG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not a problem. We're a household with two pharmacists. The sheer amount of things we've collected over the years... legally of course.

QUICK!! Someone post Sally's Address and lets all Egg Bomb her! Theres what...50 of us here? If we all sent a dozen we can get her up to 500 eggs stat...she needs help...she's breaking down.......

Oh, I dunno. I want someone who wants to go to bed at 730 PM with me. And doesn't care if I wear mittens and a hat to bed. I probably won't find that in a younger model.
