**~~>>Second Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon<<~~**all poultry welcome!

He can, but she will not appreciate it! She will not return his calls and will tell all the other hens what he did and simply ruin his reputation. Serves him right.
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha...spit water on my keyboard
Good to know. And I also read the Miracle thread. Don't expect much, but will be interesting to see if anything happens. At least we know the old gal still got it! (And with a much younger fella too.)

Ahhhhhh now here is something that won't make me pee my pants. Beautiful babies!!!

SCG - You're probably right, I wouldn't want the reponsibility of entertaining a cockeral all the time, it might be exhausting after a while.

But every now and then would be fun....
Dang it Wisher!!!!

Breaking News Alert: Punkin just hatched her first chick! While I was trying to catch up on this thread, as a matter of fact.

Turns out I originally counted the day she went broody, but I actually placed the eggs under her two days later, so today IS Day 21. (Figured that out last night as I worried about them being late...)

I was afraid she was going to kill the chick, as she pulled it out from under her and picked it up and dropped it - in the nest, though, and only about an inch - but then she tucked it beneath her tummy. Maybe she was pulling it out of the shell? It's cheeping there, now.

I will be stuck here on the sofa watching her. This is quite different from finding a broody hen with chicks, or using an incubator.

Wait. You have her inside with you where you can watch her 24/7? Now why have I never thought of that? Brilliant. Perfectly brilliant.

I need to get out there with my camera tomorrow. There are certainly plenty of photo opportunities. Good grief. 2 ducks, a chicken and, oh wait I gave the Silkie some chicks so she's not broody any more. The chicks diving into her wing and then sticking their heads out to look around is plenty cute all by itself though. I'll try to get some pics up on the contest thread tomorrow. Promise.

Second Annual Cinco De Mayo Turkey Hatch a long Digest 4-17-2013

SCG Was off to Candle While Tammy N wants to be Egg Bombed…DURR says the hubby won’t let it happen!
barnie.gif

Wolftracks may have had incubator problems but luckily has a broody to make up for it!

Blowing out eggs and either selling them for decorating or decorating and selling them was discussed. Durr could make some feed money that way. Yinepu explained that the microwave was for drying the egg(I also make the shell harder).

Razadia shared a Video about back yard chickens being allowed in a new City!

ThaiDye feeds the extra eggs as scramble eggs to her flock and adds the egg shells and sometimes buttermilk!

Mrshaggie810 had a temp spike of 106. Worries abound about the eggs. SilkieSensation said 106! Mine made it to 116—120 killed the whole batch…..

Ceocka will pay DURR for the egg plus shipping! I hope Durr can make some money selling eggs…

SCG said this was a normal winter for Maine(Wait, wasn’t Sandy this year) but last year was bad…pictures of her egg shell art were posted.

Wax Myrtle wished us a good morning! Gardeningmama wished good morning back! Also, 2 of 15 eggs are going strong. 3 are iffy but are still incubating.

Wisher posted instructions for blowing out eggs along with a video. Post 1724

Jill asked about fertility of a hen egg mated by a Guinea hen rooster. Lots of great discussion about checking fertility and what happens with this Chimera cross. Jill is going to toss the egg into the Incubator and see what develops…..

CayuseRanch said sorry for not posting more and called for a Sally Sunshine egg bomb! Sally said pleas no she was already in therapy to save her marriage! Eggs are developing and wants to sponsor a get Arielle an Avatar contest! Many cool Avatars were posted for the contest that has not even been set up yet!

Tommysgirl is failing to keep caught up! But has 22 still incubating.

Wax Myrtle has 6 developing under a Broody Hen!

We then had quite a few funny posts about cradle robbing hens and age differences in spouses. After a lot of giggling and people listening to it(how do you explain this stuff to not chicken people) it was agreed that it might be better for couples to be closer in age—since old people go to bed at 7:30.

Wildriverswolf90 posted cute chick pictures!

Razadia posted a video of opening the egg bomb eggs! Post 1762.

HEChicken has Turkey Eggs under a broody Muscovy. The Duck is moving the nest and leaves the Turkey eggs behind. This is a good reason for purchasing a new incubator, so of course one is on the way!

gryeyes has a Broody hatch happening in her house! Punkin had the first chick hatch! I am sure pictures a coming soon!

Happy Wednesday!

You go girl!  Now THAT is the way to do it.  My first was 17 years older than me (physically, not emotionally hoo-boy) - would much rather it the other way around.

Very cool video - thank you for posting.  Good luck with the eggs!

So my turkey eggs for this hatch-a-long are incubating under one of my broody muscovy ducks and I'm getting a little aggravated with her.  She keeps moving her nest - not across the coop - just inches at a time.  And when she does, inevitably one of the turkey eggs (no, never one of her eggs) gets left behind.  I can only hope I'm finding them and putting them back under her before they are too chilled.  Grrr.  I ordered another incubator last night (can we say "hatch-a-holic"?) so as soon as it gets here, I am taking all of those turkey eggs back and putting them in the new incubator.  She just lost turkey hatching privileges!!!

Another muscovy went broody last night - in a burn barrel full of broken glass left by the previous owners.  Can you just imagine those poor little ducklings hatching in a nest of broken glass?  So I moved her and her eggs to my hoop coop, expecting her to fight the move but this morning she was sitting prim and proper in her doghouse in the hoop coop.  Apparently she agrees this is a much better arrangement.  She only had 4 eggs so I gave her 19 more.  I placed them near her and went to check a little while ago and can't see a single egg so I guess she has them all tucked under her.  Hopefully she'll do a better job with them than the other broody is doing with my turkey eggs.

:D. Another incubator.
