Is this what a duck egg should look like on day 22? Its a shipped egg. Didn't turn for 7 days. Its still moving. Air cells were pretty scrambled and saddled after reattaching.

Durr - would you mind showing us your candler? Without the light on! It looks like a good one and I am working on building another one. The one I use now is a bright flashlight and my hand.

I lost a white Am (EE) late yesterday afternoon, just realized it this morning. I found a spot with a lot of her feathers and tracked them about 200 yards into the woods. I saw some tracks that I suspect are coyote and some coon's but neither were OBVIOUSLY carrying a chicken. It is possible that the feathers fell from the sky (hawk or owl) but I am leaning toward coyote. I only had two white ones, one laid a white egg and the other laid a blue egg. I guess, tonight when I collect eggs, I will figure out which one is gone.

Hello all. Bad couple of days here and I'm feeling pretty defeated. Yesterday morning DH discovered that Stuffing, our 8 week old BB white had died. Not sure what happened. He had a limp the other day and perhaps his injury was more serious than I assumed. Looked like he was just walking along, doing his thing and just dropped dead. I don't know what to think.

Later that day we went out shopping. When we got home that evening I found my incubator reading only 86 degrees. I don't know if the power had gone out or if someone had been messing with it, like my 2 year old. I'm hoping it wasn't for too long but I couldn't find movement in any of my eggs. I will candle tonight after work, but I fear all is lost

Poor Stuffing sounds like he had a heart attack.. what % protein were you feeding?

24%. I had been reading about flip the other day but I thought that was more of a concern when they were a bit older? I'm pretty bummed. I'm praying that my eggs were "sleeping" when I checked them. I pulled clears and I'm left with 3 turkey eggs that had good veins, a dozen wyandotte eggs and two mixed breed chicken. Lame

I use a bright flashlight too.

I had to pitch 2 eggs..they had blood rings and nothing else....I candled one today and had movement so I'm hoping they are all good. My temps have been wonky and it's making me nervous and TSC has bators on sale for $34.99 so I'm going to get one of those today in hopes it will regulate the temp better.

One of our favorite pullets is missing as of last night...she looks like a cue little mini-hawk...I'm hoping she was hiding out in the coop when I put the other chicks in and I just didn't see her....we'll find out soon enough though.

Haven't had much time to be online...hubby's grandma passed away Friday moring so we have been with family, and helping out as much as we can the last few days.

Alright, I have lots to do around here, stuff to do for my store space, and a birthday party for the kids later.

So sorry. The neighbor free ranges her birds all the time and has lost quite a few to coyote and fox.
