Besides, what kid do you know that wants to eat eggs every meal of every day. THAT'S how many we would be eating if we tried to eat them all.

We already use 12-18 eggs per day in cooking & still have a TON of duck eggs sitting here that are less than a week old. I haven't counted but know I have a flat of 30 pekins plus 2 more cartons over there, 3 cartons of runners, 1 of scovies & 3 of calls. Not all are completely full yet, but not far from it. Plus there are over 30 chicken eggs in the fridge we haven't managed to eat yet from this week. I haven't added quail, turkeys or geese in that count because I have orders for those. I just need to get rid of some duck eggs.

We eat, hatch, sell, trade, give away eggs..............................and I still cook about 10-15 dozen per week to feed back to the girls. And that does NOT count quail. I'm getting around 20-25 eggs per day from them, I never stay caught up with them.
I'll swap ya duckies for quail.

My free-loader quail haven't gotten back to full force yet after adding 14 new birds a couple weeks ago. The are still adjusting from the move & I want to hatch some out. As fast as I get quail eggs I get orders for them that need filled.

I got the duck eggs today. The ones that survived the trip look fairly good (air cells), unfortunately 28 eggs were broken and the box was kind of a gooey mess. Hopefully the 31 that made the trip intact will do well.

As long as I get some ducklings, I'll be happy. Thanks.

How were the 10.5 dozen quail I sent?

Ughhh! They fared about as well as my poor duckies apparently. I lost 7 cots & 28 BW to the PO's mistreatment of my package.

I found a couple more cracked ones in 1 flat when I was turning other eggs in 1 bator this evening & haven't gone back over the flats I stuffed into the other 2 bators yet, so there may be more yet that are cracked that I missed. I just want some new blood to add to my pens.

Your cot eggs are HUGE!!! Even my jumbos don't lay eggs that big!!!
Wow, the PO must have been really rough, I thought I had them protected pretty well, individually bubble wrapped, double boxed with air pillows and crumpled paper around the inside box and all.

Oh well, they can be rough.
It's amazing how much goo there was, the box was glued shut with it.

Despite that, the air cells looked good, so in the incubator they went with the intact eggs.
I didn't take pix of mine, but most of mine were dents & cracks from either eggs hitting together in the tubes or hitting the sides of the plastic tub. Even some of the eggs that were in the flats were flipped side ways from how badly they had thrown the box around. I am really beginning to hate the PO. I know my duckies were packed in a bit tighter than I like them usually, but they still should have traveled better than that. Stupid PO.

Quote: Dad's already getting all the stuff together to start, so it looks like I won't have to make any threats. I actually had to put 3 of my hens on the roost last night. I think it decided to make a detour through the game pen and upset them.
Good. Since dad was the 1 that wanted the quail to begin with that probably helps too.

And go figure I'd fall in love with them in the process.

Quote: I sent it. My last 3 babies are mad. I still have them in the pet carrier while we build the new cage.
Better mad than dead. They will get over it.
That's what I'm saying.
You should definitely get some more Texas A&M's this time. I have an entire pen of them now & know that pen is laying.
I'm behind on replying, but that's awesome. Dad loved the one I hatched. That darn snake had to ruin that though.

My second batch of turkeys is now done...28 little boogers and a peachick! I've only found a handful of pea eggs this year, and just the one chick so far...very disappointing, but beter the one than none. I had one poult hatch under the broody Bourbon Red (Scarlett) and then I stuffed the rest under her...so she's a bit mystified as to the success.

I'm selling off all of my Orps but one project. Same with my banty Cochins and my Silkied Ameraucanas. It's tooooooo tooooooo much. I'll be putting up auctions so I can't back out because hubby will really explode if I don't follow through...

*sigh*

I really just want to have a farm with infinite space and resources...is that so much to ask?
