Second Buff Orpington Randomly Dead

I'm sorry about your hen.

Without necropsy it would be really hard to know what happened. If you still have the body, refrigerate it and send it to your state lab or if you are up to it, do one yourself and investigate that way. Take photos and we'll try to help you with what you see.
I know that may not be for everyone, but a lot of us do our own - sometimes we do find something obvious. Most common issues with any laying hen is reproductive disorders (EYP, Cancer, Salpingitis, etc.), Fatty Liver Disease and/or some type of organ failure.

Maybe I'll get a coop cam. I didn't refrigerate the body. Although I thought about it. I had not buried her yet, but maybe I'll cut her open while the girls are at school. They're attached to their chickens.

I'm gonna remove all their bedding, powerwash the coop, do all that today, change out all the food with new food, and inspect all the chickens closely for mites and stuff.

Well... the laying flock is now currently 4 down from 6.

But when the first bird died, we went and got 3 baby chicks. So.... eventually it will be 7 when they're old enough and large enough to introduce. Let's hope it stays this size.

We are house hunting for some land because we enjoy raising them so much and want to start raising broilers and other animals.
