"It is talent on loan from God." I would like to see the stats from BYC on activity generated by Royd and my posts.

I cannot believe I got left out. I was the guy that hijacked a thread about homeschooling and turned it into an argument about Lincoln, after all.

@Rebel - I cannot believe I forgot about that. Did a paper on relativity theory a while back and completely forgot about it.

HUSH! You've been out of trouble for almost a year, and if you get into hot water again, I will kill you.

I have to say that I doubt that there's life there, and even if there was, how the heck are we planning on finding it?

Like others have mentioned, it's way too far away for trying to be practical/worth it.

Oh, wow, it's been that long? I must be losing my touch.

I basically agree - though, that planet out there? After Rebel reminded me that time is basically relative, I could see a use for the planet, assuming it has a suitable atmosphere and resources. The trouble would be funding it - there would have to be lots of tests to see if it's suitable for human habitation, then funding for really big ships to carry lots of people and equipment.

The moon would be basically useless for terraforming (no atmosphere and ultra-low gravity), but Mars would have potential. It's not that simple, though. The atmosphere would need to be thickened, oxygen added, make it warmer, and to be useful at all it would also need to have resources. It's also at the edge of the habitable zone, I believe. Venus, meanwhile, WOULD be useful, except that its atmosphere makes it the hottest planet in the solar system. If there were a way to completely alter its atmosphere, it would be by far the best planet for attempts at colonization.

They say that there's a planet out there, somewhere, that's a big Diamond...It could just fund itself.

And I suppose that is why I didn't notice Q9's absence from the sentence.

Alien: Are you an aggressive species?
Explorer: We detonate nuclear weapons in our only biosphere on a regular basis. We've developed forms of torture that bring pain just by thinking about them. We have enough atomic weapons to irradiate the entire planet and have plenty left over for another round. Now take me to your leader.
Alien: *Craps pants and runs*

Humans are actually quite terrifying, when you think about it.

another good example of our aggressiveness is like, if, say a huge alien spaceship landed anywhere. who would be the first to show up? the military of whatever country the ship landed in.

They would most likely do the same thing to us

Good thing it's so far away, one less planet for us to destroy.

Mr. Smith on the matrix had it right, the human race is a virus! Even if we went to another planet "peacefully", we'd do the same thing we did to the Native Americans........ slowly and then agressivly, take over their world too, it's in our selfserving nature.

I also think it's pretty narrow minded, to think, that we are the only living things out there.
