Second time around - Ameraucana eggs !

Well - as you know I am using the basket to hatch...well - I have 5 eggs and I have movers and shakers in 4 out of the 5 - YAY! I don't know how, but it is working!

Congrats on your movers and shakers! I love it when they dance inside their eggs! You must be doing something right!! Take a video of them moving...then take an audio recording of their peeping inside their shell!! I wish I would've done that with Parsley, they grow up so fast!!

only a few more days to go. i tried candling the eggs and 6 out of 7 are very black .... out of the 6, two have dark shadows with floating black objects inside but they are not moving independently. of course, i can't really see all that well, since the eggs are bluish-green but i am not very hopeful about getting any chicks from this go around.

if i don't get any chicks, i'll buy a dozen eggs from Chino Valley Ranchers and try again.

I can't see too well either and my batteries are going low in my light, but I did see movement in 2 out of the 5 for sure and my eyes could have been playing tricks on me for the rest, I guess only time will tell. I hope you get some chickies...I am crossing my fingers for you. I have got to get my humidity level up...I am at 30% - it is hard to maintain humidity when you are hatching eggs in a kitchen strainer, lol...Maybe I should try a humidifier in the room...I do have a small crack in one of my eggs...I think somebody wants to come out and play! I had to move the basket into a rubbermaid tub just in case someone decides to make an entrance! Good Luck to you - really, these fingers are all crossed!

I have a pip! This is unbelievable! In the HATCHING BASKET! I had a small little crack in another egg a couple of days ago, nothing came out within 24 hours...(the crack didn't break the egg) - I picked the sucker up last night and candled it before I threw it out and when I stuck the light under it the dag-gone chick pecked at it, lol...I was sure it was a gonner...lol...I am so happy that my little hatching set up is somewhat successful...I have 5 eggs...I wonder how many chicks will pop out to meet me!?

Oh I'm so jealous!! A pip!! Congratulations on your first sign of your outward bound chick!! Nothing here...yet....I am still holding out hope but not too optimistic.
You must post photos of your first pip and chick inside their basket!!

I've got 6 ( I think!) chicks and 3 turkey pips. Can't really see much more as it is wall to wall chicks and eggs in there now. It's SO hard not to open it up to get the already hatched ones out of there. Sigh. I will NOT open the bator. I will NOT open the bator. I will NOT open the bator.
Littledirtlane, congrats on your basket hatch-- just goes to show that with a little ingenuity, you can make due with what you have.
