Secret hiding place (picture heavy)

It's pretty unlikely that she'll take to chicks that old. You really need to try it with chicks in the 1-3 day range. I hope you can find some for her. Is she still sitting tight on the nest? Did you dispose of the eggs yet?

For some day old chicks in your near future!

Do you really want chicks or just feel sorry for your hen or what is the motivation here guys?

Just trying to help weigh out the situation.... I am totally inexperienced with this whole deal but very interested. It is my general assumption that we all think it would be nice for mamma to have some babies after all her hard work. Or is it more than that? Have we made jr feel that she "needs" to have some chicks and is that what he/she really wants to do. This broody is a first experience and an accidental one I think right?

She is still sitting on the nest but we are down to 3 eggs left. I am almost certain that I will remove them very soon.

tdgill - I am always looking for more chicks. With the hen going broody gave me the opportunity to have chicks from my own hens/roos. And now that they are not working out, I am feeling bad for her and want to "reward" her for her hard work of sitting on these eggs for so long with some babies she can raise. I may just give up on looking for some babies and try to get her recovered and back in with the rest of the hens.

gotcha. thanks for clearing it up for me. Just thinking of ya!

You all are so funny! I watch this post to see what you are going to say next (but I am curious about the hen, too).
