Boyd, that is what I did when we lived in Anchorage last time. I used 1/2 PVC pipe to form a hoop over the garden area and used 6mil plastic. This made a temporary greenhouse and extended the seaso two weeks on each end of the summer. We had raised boxes using 2x12s to maje beds that were 4x12 feet. We attached the PVC tobth sides using pipe brackets. If you don't have a bed like that you could always drive in rebar sections every so often an slip the end of the PVC pipe over that to form the same type of hoop covering.

Will be planting feild peas, sweet corn, and carrots. Not starting anything indoors this year, last year's seedlings failed. I'll wait for the ground to be warm enough for planting this spring. I've always had better luck sowing my seeds directly in the gsrden where I want the plants to grow.

I always plant snow peas, arugula and kale the last week of February. There's a large patch in our field that needs a fresh dose of clover and wildlife mix. When I plant the peas I place my sunbox to preheat the soil, then buy seed.

My favorite tomatoes - German Pink, Crnkovic, AMish Paste, Long Tom, Brandywine, Bream's Yellow Pear
I plant different peppers every year, some cilantro for salsa. Garlic and onions are green and growing right now under the snow!

The deer completely obliterated my kale last fall, so this is the year I install electric deer fence

Also planting gourds for flute and drum making - dipper, snake, kettle

FAvorite beans - Christmas Lima, Yin/Yang, speckled cranberry

Heck, you dont have to be in a cold climate to enjoy that link. Stuff like that would just make it easier for me to start even earlier. I am going to build two 6 ft by 10 ft greenhouses this summer so that I can get an early start next winter/spring season. Thanks for the link.
