Self Blue (Lavender) Silkie Thread

Aprroximatly how much longer dose lavender have until it becomes an offical variety? I am extremely interested in buying some hens from some lavender breeders!

We plan to have them recoginzied to standard in December at Shawnee, Oklahoma. Anyone who has them needs to try and come. It will be a APA semi anual meet and the shows at Shawnee are ALWAYS very nice! We will want cockerels, pullets, hens and roosters showing. A big assortment will be GREAT. I already made my reservations for Deb and I. Nothing like being excited about a show.

I will be there this year for sure! Of course my Pullet will be a hen and my Cockerel will be a Roo, but I am bringing both of them. I might have a few pullets and Cockerels to bring by then also.

Bren would it be okay to breed my Black/Lav split to my Splashes and Blues since Deb said they should not be bred to Lavenders because of their Diluted genes? If not, then I need to consider selling my Splashes and Blues because I will not have anything to breed them to.

He is starting to look really nice! He is going to have a nice crest!

I think you posted to me yesterday but I could not get logged in. Anyway, I have a pair of Pastel Calls, a Grey male and a Mixed up male that was my only one to hatch from shipped eggs. Lost my Grey pair to a dog. I also got the silkies to sit on my Call eggs but now I want to hatch the silkies eggs too. Plus I found out the silkies I have are Birds of Paradise lines. That was EXCITING! I also have Lionhead bunnies that are just getting to breeding age. I am all over the place but it is fun!!

I have these Lav/split silkies which are all turning out to be roos so now I need a couple hens also. Since it takes so long for silkies to mature it is going to be a looooong couple of years for some of us! Ha ha. Learning alot from this thread.

So what will happen when they become a varitey. I know you can show them already, dose it just make the eligble for BOB?

Yes then they can compete with other varieties of silkies. For the past five years we compete as AOV, All Other Varieties. Wins will then also count towards points for the clubs we belong to. ASBC, ABA, APA to work towards master breeder or master exibitor status.

Thanks to Bren and Deb's encouragement and generosity, I'm working on non bearded lavenders as well as bearded. I'm hoping to have chicks of both within a few months. My lavenders are all from Bren and Deb's lines, but I've a bit of other genetic material included through blacks split to lavender. No young yet, but should be soon. I'm also working toward lavender Showgirls. I think you have a few now, don't you Brenda?

If all of us in this area who have lavenders bring them to Shawnee, we could really have an imprssive showing.

This show sounds like it will be a HUGE event for all Lavenders and their breeders out there!

As I said Matt, I bought my lavenders from Ideal HATCHERY, where they do not breed for quality but quantity.

I wasn't you that said I should not get them because of their type it was the other Hannah.

It is amazing how the type has improved over the last two years. I hope you all can get them all to the show and get them accepted as a variety. They are the only chickens that i like in the Lav color. Before I decided not to keep silkies anymore I did order some lavs silkies from ideal. they were so ugly i just couldn't stand to keep them. They were so flighty and acted crazy everytime i fed them. Did not have the disposition of my silkies.
I do enjoying seeing all your pics of these and the porcelains. Beautiful.
