Self Blue (Lavender) Silkie Thread

This has been an excellent and informative thread!
Thanks to all the lavender breeders for sharing the history of thier breeding, the results and thier birds.
I do have a question, that came from another thread awhile back.

I do know that there are a couple of different lines that when bred together they do not breed true. It just depends on how they got to the Lavender color and what bases they used. But, if you pick one breeder and stay with that bloodline, then they should breed true.

If a lavender gene is a lavender gene, can this be true?

Brendapa,

I made that statement, but after reading Deb's post about the Splash and Blue breedings, I am not so sure that is true. I do know that Brens and Debs breed true.

Deb said that Splash and Blue are dilute colors, so just because a bird looks Lavender does not mean that it will throw Lavender. So, I will have to re-tract the statement that if you pick one breeder and stay with that breeder that they will breed true, because if I am understanding correctly now, that is false.

As I said Matt, I bought my lavenders from Ideal HATCHERY, where they do not breed for quality but quantity.

Just another day in Paradise! This was taken last fall of my mature pullets and cockerels. They looked like cotton candy in a soft lavender flavor.

Thanks Cammy, for the clarification...it's a little overwhelming but thanks to all the fantastic input, much clearer.

I was also wondering about the progress of having the Lavender accepted as a standard color in the ASBC.
There seems to be a lot of "silkie" people on BYC. By having as many people as possible join, would this benifit the ASBC?

Bren and Deb both want as many Lavender's as possible at the Shawnee Show next year. They are working on getting them accepted or recognized??

I am taking my pullet and maybe my Cockerel.

Thanks Judy, Deb and Everyone,

That clarifies it a lot and confirms what I thought. The chick has quite a bit of brown in him so might feather out with the gold or brown too. I have more silkies hatching now from a BYC'er but unfortunately no chance of lavenders
