Self Blue (Lavender) Silkie Thread

Seems ALL hatcheries are Sold Out of Self Blue as they call them anyway. Remember - "Good things come to those who wait"
We will get our Lavs bacres!

If you do not want show quality or breeder quality birds, then there is no reason not to buy from a hatchery. There is a huge difference in their appearance though.

I am all for anyone doing whatever makes them happy with their chickens. I am just so pleased to see so many with such nice type. I know there are lots of breeders who have been working on this for years now and it is evident in the type. The ideal chicks had good color. I don't know what was used to cross the color in but the ones I got had lots of hard feathers, some with straight combs and very few with beards and poor foot feathering and not all had five toes. Other than that they were Lav. I just decided since so many already had good type to wait and then decided to completely sell all my silkies cause I needed the room. I do miss them. They are the sweetest birds. Beautiful to look at too.

If your wanting Show or Breeder Quality, then I would definitely recommend that you not buy from a Hatchery. There are a few members that have some really nice Lavenders.

I can't wait for mine to start laying

Your going to have better luck finding the BBS... or maybe even a lav split chick or started bird.. Most people won't let go of their lavs due to the fact that they are not common and if they do they will cost a small fortune. I would say in a year or two there will be more lavs available. A few breeders are letting go of a very small number of lavs. There are some lav roos on eggbid that you could use to breed to blacks and make splits then take back the daughters to the lav dad... The roos are still $100-200 each... pullets go much higher. Sonew123 has some lavs... I think she sells split eggs???
