Self Blue (Lavender) Silkie Thread

OK lavender split to lavender split to lavender....%25 if that good...I need to think on that. I am not thinking all will even carry one gene which you need to cross those back to get better percentages.

lav split to blue xblack blue...nothing you would have to cross and cross and experiement a lot in test breeding to even know which chicks MIGHT carry a lavender gene

Lav x lav/split should give you 50% lavenders

Someone here once put it this way...one lavender gene won't turn on the light...it takes two to see it.

Thanks a lot Bren!!!!!!!!!!!!! I always loved blacks and never really gave lavender much thought but I really like it! It seems pretty fun too! lol You never know what you are going to get. Will you have any rooster for sale in spring Bren? Mine should mature in spring. I plan on having a black pen and a lavender/lav. split pen too. About how many chicks do you start off with to give you a good trio of lavender? How much harder is lavender than any other color? I am still reading the thread so I am still learning what a lavender should look like. Thanks!

lavender X lavender = 100% lavender
lav X black = 100% black split to lavender
black split to lav X black split to lav = 50% black split to lavender, 25% lavender and 25% straight black
lav X black split to lav = 50% lav and 50% black split to lav

Thanks all! What are you breeding lavenders for? I mean, what should they look like? Does someone have a "perfect" looking one?

Now I have a question about my own post! LOL! Does anyone know what this type of "chart" would look like if you were breeding Lavenders with Buffs or buffs split to lavs to get porcelains? Or is that not the same?

Porcelain x Porcelain= ?
Lav x Porcelain = ?
Lav x Buff = ?
Buff split to Lav x buff split to lav = ?

Bren- Thanks for the explination of why not to use blues and splashes! I was wondering about that!

In a perfect silkie genetic world those percentages would be true. However, in the imperfect silkie genetic world, lav X black can also get you blue, white, gray and black. I've seen it happen...and the lav roo is the only roo on the place, so no mistakes. Definitely lavender roo and lovely black hens.

The problem is this...is the lav on a white base or a black base? What other colors are in the background of the black hens.

I know that it sounds so cut and dried...but it isn't.

Comments??

On my lav cock over splits I have gotten over 80% lavs. I would actually prefer he throw some nice splits, but the genes aren't working out like the calculation yet. Also getting very roo heavy hatches from them. Go figure. My splits are nice clear black though.

Lavender splits arent supposed to have silver leakage? I didnt think that but I have seen many auctions when they say its lavender split and you can tell from the lavender hackles. Also do some lavender look like porcelain? So many people claim to have lavender and I get so confused!
