Self Blue (Lavender) Silkie Thread

I am a complete newbie to breeding chickens and still trying to decipher the alphabet soup of the color genetics. I do love the lavender color, particularly the overlay on buff (porcelain? isabel?) and will be watching this thread. Have two lavender eggs in the bator and praying they both hatch

This is my first (week old) chick with lavender coloration - perhaps porcelain/isabel?

When I had porcelains I would get these. They looked like this when I crossed a lav with a buff, so would be buff split to lav but have the lav "leakage" you see. They are very pretty! If that is what this is, I would cross it to a lav again and the babies should be porcelains! :)

Good to know. Can't wait to see how this little cutie matures. So basically, if I wanted to have more of these I should breed buff to lavender?

Hello,
It is May 6, 2012 and I wanted to reply to your post. This is the cutiest little chick I have ever seen. Please give me all the info you can on him/her if you do not mind. Exactly what kind of little chick is he/she and where might I get one. I have just ordered 3 Bantam Lavender Ameracuana hatching eggs and can't wait to see them hatch. I wanted them for the blue eggs but I am not sure they are going to be as cute as this little one of yours. Are you raising these little guys and girls and if so are you selling them and if not would you miind telling me where you got him/her? SOOOO cute.
Thanks

Hey, Glad to see this thread revived also.
I sold my good breeding hens and still had some eggs saved back so I am back in the lavender loop again.
Have just a handful of very pretty lav chicks.
I am concentrating on American Paint Silkies and Paint Showgirls right now, but as soon as these lavs get bigger I will be raising lavs again.
I use a black/lav split roo, "Cuss" and the percentage of Lavender chicks is very good. Plus they hatch well.
I'll try and get some pics today to share with you.
God Bless you all, happy hatching!
Cheryl

I'm looking for a lavender pair, anyone? I"m in NY so don't want any from very far away, although shippinng is ok.

Hi Cheryl! Glad you are back :) I just sold a split roo and a lav sg hen so will be rearranging my pens soon. I think I will be pairing my lav sg roo with just a split hen, then use my awesome black male over all my lav silkie and sg hens (he will be one luck boy a few days with them, a few days with the black girls) LOL! That would give me mostly splits this year, but should improve type and hatchability a ton!

Other than that I do have some eggs in the bator from my sold roo, and a lav silkie cockerel and an unknown split sg growing out :)

Hi! I agree with using the split or a super black to cross on.
So far I have never used Lav to Lav, but probably be because I didn't have a lav roo with the hens, I have just always used good old Cuss and was always pleased with the chicks.
Here is a pic of one of his pullets that was always following me around.
I was taking pics of Paints and she just HAD to have her picture taken.

I think this is the only chicken I ever sold that I really miss. She was such a sweetheart.
BUT the good news I have some chicks of her mothers and sired by Cuss so maybe I'll be luck enough to get some siblings of hers.
