Self Blue (Lavender) Silkie Thread

Well I have made it all the way through this very informative thread! I love Silkies, and I am partial to Lavender, but I think I will wait a bit longer for the genetics to get cleaned out of the blue that was introduced early on by some well intentioned but mis-informed people who thought their Splashes were Lavender, or those who were genetically challenged, and the Partridge base that is still lurking underneath those pretty feathers. Still too much confusion between Splash and Lavender Splash and I am still seeing Lavenders with the very dark necks that I have read are indicative of being a carrier of Blue.

But, for people who are visual learners and would like to see and use a chart for lavender color breedings I thought I would share one I made up recently for the lavenders here. The Splits I have used are Black split to lavender. If you are using the Blues you would have to add in the Blue Breeding chart as well - which is another reason why I prefer to stay away from Blue split to lavender, or Lavender Blues...

Thank you TdHenson86 and Peepblessed! How is your boy maturing out PeepBlessed? My pretty boy will be a year old on September 17th.

Beautiful lavenders and porcelains Mumsy and TdHenson86!!!

Thanks! I'm so happy with them. I have a boy that is still a bit young that I didn't post a picture of. But, when I do post a picture, you're going to be blown away at how gorgeous he is (as long as he keeps developing like he has been so far). He is my favorite Silkie roo that I've ever had.

Is this a lavender chick?

It looks like a blue chick to me. Baby lavenders (self blue) usually are lighter around the eye area and mine always seem to have a touch of yellowish coloring on the down. This one also has the partridge-like stripes on the back.

Here is a blue (though darker around the head than yours) but with the same color body fluff as my lavender.

I had one hatch out like this one but thought it was a lighter partridge. It was from a blue split and splash. So it probably was just a lighter partridge because the only way I'd get lavender is by breeding lav+lav or if they were both splits, but in my case the hen was not.

I agree on the blue chick. My self blues always have very light partridge stripes. I am very certain of their origin.

Mine too Betsy. Self blue X self blue always equals self blue!

This is the baby I pictured above all grown up.

So this is most likely a blue also? The first one is much lighter. The eggs got mixed before they got marked. Lav's, Blues, splashes in her flock

Lynzi yours might have been a splash also. When the spots (rarely seen as hatchlings) are nearly the same color as the background they look very similar to a self blue chick even when full grown.
