The "explosion" of chicks hatching under Moms that I warned my husband to expect has started. Three of the four pullets in the first pen are black/lav splits, and one of the two cockerels who were with them and grew up with them is a black/lav split. So far, of the eight that have hatched, one is a lav. with a high vaulted skull but only four toes on each foot. Several are nice blues, and a couple are obviously a mixture of the blue and the one white pullet. These are all out of Bren's birds. Quite a few more to come.

Yesterday I came home and she was just laying there. She never got up, but she wasn't dead. So I brought her in and put her under the heat lamp. Then she died and started to drain a liquid out of her nose, eyes, and mouth as I was taking her outside to the wheel barrow to dispose of her. Any ideas of what it was. Now I have a silkie that is lame. He was in the same pen as the black pullet. I will post a pic of her tomorrow. It is of when she was little.

Well, mites can make them very sick, but I would think that you would have seen some symptoms before she died. But, chickens do not show symptoms until they are very sick.

Was she laying age?
