In the second picture, the pen that the silkies are in, is that covered or not? Ive been only putting my silkies in covered pens, but was wondering how its been working for those who dont cover the tops? Any hawk attacks, etc?

Beautiful birds!

Hawks wouldn't eat them they are way to beautiful!

No, April, that's a Bobbi Porto chick from Kaminari, the Feb hatch.

Your babies are coming along beautifully. 2 blues, 4 porcelains and 3 lavenders.

Their heads are full of pin feathers and they are at that teenage stage. I'll try to snap some pic's as soon as the sun comes out again.

oh they are all covered, the lav pen has deer netting over it and it is right up against my house so I can hear everything when downstairs. you cant see but my poarch and sliding dooes are right there. But still it is covered, I made the mistake once of thinking it did not need more than some fishing line over it but there was a 2 foot gap between the fence (at the time 4 feet, now 6ft.) and the line so I could walk under and a hawk walked up to the fence and just jumped over avoiding the line. his escape when I caught him was not nearly so graceful

This was a while ago though and I corrected the problem right away.

Thanks!

oh and bacres the haws ALWAYS eat the best ones, its just Murphy's law so the prettier the more likely to become a meal

HAWKS !?

14 silkies are jammed in that dogloo after my rooster gave them the hawk alert.

It was like a chinese fire drill. He is 1 year old and is "training" them to go into this kennel when they are let out of the coop. He herds them.
He is a good boy.
