Self Blue (Lavender) Silkie Thread

[Sonoran Silkies]

Black is about as neutral a colour as there is. Since lavender had to be introduced from a different breed, crossing back to high quality blacks helped bring correct type and other silkie traits back to the birds. I can see how a bird with insufficient melanizers to cover hackes might benefit from a new dose of them by breeding to a solid black bird. I agree that Bren and Deb have more knowledge and experience with lavender silkies than anyone. George also has a lot of knowledge and experience wirh lavenders, but sadly he is not breeding anymore

Bren and Deb have both been seriously working on lavender for years; most of the other folks who have them have only had them for a fairly short while.

The heat here has been insane, one month of 90's & a few days in the 100's! We have finally gotten a break, how are the silkies on your end doing? Since we have a lot of followers on this thread, would anyone like to share summertime tips with newbies? We have FANS LOTS & LOTS OF FANS going 24/7, refill waters several times a day with fresh cool H2O for our fluffs here. What are you doing for the heat?

On a side note, the little cows are laying me out of house & incubator, thinking of doing and egg auction, anyone interested? Let me know and I'll get it posted later today?

As far as the heat goes...two days ago, a came home early from work to add more fans and change their water. They were panting! This morning, it was so cool that the chicks were crying for a light!

I am not complaining and plan on enjoying the next three days of 80 degree highs
