Self Blue (Lavender) Silkie Thread

Yes, lavender will not show if not present in two copies. But, even if lav IS present in two copies, if blue is also present in either one or two copies, the bird will look more like the blue or splash phenotype than like lavender. In a blue you will see darker head, hackles, etc. In a splash you will see darker splashes.

If you breed to splash or blue you are just making it really hard on yourself and the possibility of mixing up pure lavenders. This could set you back a year or more if you get things all mixed up. They are splits but extremely HARD to tell what is what. I'd wait until you are sure what you are breeding/hatching.

Sonoran,

I would love to! Its dark here in Florida but when the sun is shining again in the morning I'll snap a picture.

I believe this is one that I emailed you a picture of as a lemonheaded baby.

Would you please explain a 'quail pattern' and where it comes from in the mean time?

Would love to know how in the world we got this one!

Thanks!

Bren is that comment towards me? If so I just bought these at the Ohio Nationals and was told Lavender. It wasn't til I started reading this thread for days now that I came across this information about the Blues, and different coloring.....Mine looks like it from whats said

Just like mille fleur is the variety most commony associated with d'uccles, quail is the variety most commonly associated with d'anvers. Beautiful pattern. You can see a lot here: http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/CGP/Quail/BRKQuailBty.html Since you only have lavender, black & buff, I would guess lavender quail. Take this pretty girl, dilute all pigment with lavender and you will have something similar to your girl:

Thank You!

After looking at the other pictures I do believe the pattern is quite the same. With silkies patterns are a bit tricky... but I still think the same.

We'll have to try for another! She is a beauty... I just wish I knew how/what/why/when/where in the world she was made?

Can you tell... I like order and she messes my whole farm up... happily and beautifully so.

I only want lavender. black. buff. isobel porcelain. NOTHING FISHY!

Sigh.

darling farms.

Looked at the photos again... the patterns on 'her' look like the patterns on the 'him' quail... maybe 'she' is a 'he'. It is rather young to make any assumptions.

I agree:)
Also remember bird carrying two copies of blue and lavender will look like a lavender early on as a chick and as the feathering comes in a difference will be seen.

Okay, I just got a split lavender silkie roo from awesomefowl. I am about to start reading all 209 pages of this post in order to make sure I'm understanding what color hens I should get to start breeding him with. If I have questions after all that, I will ask you good people. I'm not really looking for SQ birds here. Just don't want to lose the lavender trait, here. Just want some pretty silkies running around with my other chickies..

Making sure any black introduced to lavender not a dark blue bird first before breeding anything. and then...

As for me, Id go split to split or split to lavender.

I have a feeling that I might be selling my lavenders...

Oh my..... don't give up the ship:)
Took me a whole year to get my f1's for palominos. After a unfertile roo and one huge embarrasing moment with Henk. I could have walked away then, but now I have my starters and I'm thrilled.
