Self injury

My rooster is hitting his head against his feeder, and has caused alot of bruising and bleeding from his comb, and wattles.
I have no idea why, and was hoping for some insight.

I guess first off I would check him for mites or bugs on his head, or snot in his nose. Is this a new behavior or has he done this all along?

It just started last week. So its new.

I would check him for mites, and also think about whether he has access to something that makes him itch? Check his nostrils and his ears. I don't know what else would cause that.
