After working at my desk non stop 12-16 hour days for 9 months I find myself 18 pounds heavier from lack of physical activity. I have a treadmill with a TV in it but, even with the TV I have a hard time staying on it for more than 45 minutes and am not very good at keeping with it everyday. When I work I am concentrating so much the hours fly by with no problem. One of the advantages of working from home is you can set up your office however you want as long as you get the job done.
I kept seeing news reports about a new invention "the treadmill desk". It looked perfect for me, however was very pricey. They run anywhere between $3,000-$5,000. So I got to analyzing the office equiptment I already have and with the help of my SO. I built my own. I just put it together Monday and am still fine tuning a few things but this is really going to work for me.
Now this set up is not for running. Speed is not the thing here. It's just set up to keep me in motion. I set the speed for a 40 minute mile & start working. I have been able to do between 2-3 hours on it per day without even realizing I've been on it that long. But I can feel it in my muscles at night so I know it is supplying the activity I have been lacking. I'm walking right now as I'm on BYC.
