haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! you're gonna love 'em! baked two loaves this a.m.; DH & DD have wolfed down half a loaf already. can't wait to hear how yours turn out!

here is something cheap and tasty to go with that delicious bread...for those of you who planted cabbages this year....

Cabbage Roll Casserole

1 med. head green cabbage, chopped
1 lb ground beef or we use ground bison meat...very low fat high iron
1 med. onion chopped
1 lg can tomato soup
1 lg can beef broth
1 cup uncooked rice (not minute rice)

brown meat and onions till meat is no longer pink. meanwhile, layer half the cabbage in a 9x13 casserole dish. drain meat/onions or if using Bison, don't need to. layer on top of cabbage. top with rice.
put rest of cabbage on top of rice. pour soup and beef broth over all.
cover with foil or glass top.

bake at 350F for 1 1/2 hrs. stir mixture after one hour.

this is super cheap and makes a huge pan. awesome w/the bread.

Does washing soda just say washing soda? I looked in my local Wally-World today (right by the borax) and they didn't have it. They also didn't have the Fels Napa Soap. Any other suggestions on where I might find it?

We don't have a Kroger, just Wally-World, KMart & Ingles Grocery Store.

make loaf shapes and let it rise/bake on a cookie sheet.

What do I make them out of? tin Foil?

Punkin, someone has mentioned IGA before. I found them at my local family owned grocery store chain. Crest foods, so you may check in local family owned. The Washing soda Does say washing soda, and the package looks exactly the same as a baking soda box, although the washing soda boxes are yellow instead of orange. You may find the fels naptha in the body soap isle, that's where i found mine.

I think she meant form the dough into a loaf shape.

And then bake freeform

oh. ......well then I just showed my butt on how I don't know anything about baking from scratch!

ETA I so just re-read that post and feel like a total goober now....I see how she meant to form it then let bake on the cookie sheet.

I'm a little terrified too, but I tried the homemade apple butter that Scrambled has on her apple butter thread, and although it was time consuming, I was really surprised at how easy it was! My excuse is that I don't have the ingredients yet. But two weeks from now I will be getting them on our grocery shopping trip. And I'll be able to get some loaf pans.
