Self-sufficient households; help!

Bought the stuff for soap, made the soap, love the soap.

Got some wierd looks from DH, but he loves the savings and now he loves the soap.
We didn't, however, love the oxyclean in the dishwasher. I don't know if we used too much (less than a scoop from the container), but it left a cloudy film over everything.

Ahh, ya win some, ya loose some...

I value the hunt to try new things though!

I have a recipe for dish washer detergent that calls for equal part baking soda & borax. Could you add bleach to that? Like color safe bleach or something? I have been using the cascade complete with bleach and it costs more than most of the other stuff you can buy. But I have been buying it anyway because it whoops everything else, hands down. I've not seen anything clean dishes better (short of hand washing)

Anyone tried it?

That's what I use as well. I'm amazed at how well it works. I can put baked-on stuff in my dishwasher and this stuff gets it clean. If anyone can come up with something that works as well, I'd be willing to try it, but so far I'm not motivated to do anything differently.

Love the homemade soap....and I even ran jeans through the dryer without fabric softner or a dryer sheet...they came out just fine!!

DH was skeptical, and the in-laws think I'm a nut job, but hey, pinch pennies where ya can, do a little something to help the environment, and so what if the DH tells people "Its like Pioneer Days at our house" !!! ROFL

I also use Cascade Complete, the little packets with bleach. We have been using it since it came out and I love it. It gets my dishes sparkling clean with no residue left on them.

Folks, those blue dryer balls work great....have been using the same set for 2 years now without replacing. Costs me $10 at Walmart. No static, no smelly perfume, no oil spots on clothing, no oils clogging my lint filter. With the homemade liquid detergent, my clothing is softer than with store bought softeners anyway.
