Hello!! This is my first post here, so I’m a bit nervous! But let’s cut to the chase
I’m an FFA member with one-too-many hens. After raising broilers, I decided to test out layer hens. In my experience raising 50 meat birds, I assumed the fatality rate to be the same and to expect some deaths, especially as a first time hen owner.
I was wrong, all of them lived. Cute at first, but now a bit stressful! My barn manager advised me to sell at least 7 of them (i have 16) so here I am!
I know for sure I’ve got barred plymouth rocks, those I’m selling for 20 as they’re bout to start laying, but I’m willing to lower! I think my yellows are golden comets, and the reds might be rhode island reds? I’m not sure, so I’m willing to take whatever yall will pay
As I’m in the Kaufman area, I will only drive around there to deliver.. I’m not the best driver, so leaving the county is a bit frightening!
Anyway, heres the hens! They came from Cackle Hatchery, and do have the Mareks vaccine.
If anyone could advise me how else to sell some hens, it’d be greatly appreciated. They deserve a great home— I really don’t want to result in selling them for meat.
Temperment wise, they’re pretty sweet and good around kids, some are more approachable than others. They eat from hands and dont bite (purposefully of course) but prefer not to be grabbed or carried for a long period of time.
