Selling chicks, best way to run it, and get the word out?

I can out a few in with my ducks, but not forever. I also have mobile pens that I could use, to move around my yard in the day time, and then a kennel to keep them in at night if I had to keep them as adults.

So long as you feel comfortable in doing so its a fun experience. We are hatching chicks and sell them here and there too! I love it. I'm sure you can sell on facebook as well.

Unfortunately with as many as we hatch, we do encounter a couple chicks that do need to be humanely culled. Another thing to be prepared to do if you encounter any deformities or notice any sickly/ill chicks. It does happen unfortunately and it always breaks my heart, but it is a responsibility we must take on.

Any breeds you had in mind? I currently sell Easter eggers and Barnyard mixes.

I would be prepared to cull chicks that don't thrive. I am 1000% gonna be a vet, so any additional care, help hatching, care, culling I am prepared for. Breed wise, I think I will start a FB page about it, and just ask the community, what they want. I will even do ducklings, and other poultry if that is what my "customers" want. I will try to do 1 or 2 of my own flocks eggs and sell as mixes. Otherwise, I can do pure RIR, from my flock, and will have to buy the eggs for pure breeds, from neighbors, and craigslist.

I’m currently a vet assistant and am in college to pursue a career as a veterinarian.

I’m a sucker for “special animals”, I’m always taking in all the chicks with deformities and issues. They may need extra care and love, but if they can have a happy life I’ll support them every way I can.

I’ve ended up with a lot of house chickens, haha!

We have SO much farm land around, and the chicks at TSC near me sell out in 1-2 days usually, so there is no shortage of people needing chicks, or ducklings, or andy poultry really. Just worried no one will know I have them up for grabs.

Post on craigslist under farm and garden and also see if you can put up a notice at your local feed store. Spread the word among your chicken friends. Agree best to sell as day olds or week old at most, otherwise you will be stuck with cockerels. Focus on breeds that are not readily available at TSC or other sources, but nothing too fancy or expensive or you will not get any buyers. It is alot of fun to hatch your own chicks. Good luck!

Thank you! I am very excited! I want to sell them as 2-3 day olds so I can have them for a little bit, and then a bit longer as it will take time to get attention on them! I think my local CHS, my FAVORITE feed store, will let me put up a flier. They don't sell chicks so it own be taking away from there business or anything! Thanks again, Avery

I guess the worst would be every chick is a boy, and I don sell any.

If you sell at a couple days old you won't know the genders, that's why you sell as straight run.
You'd have to cross the right birds to get sexlinks...solid male over barred females.
That's what my latest crosses are, one year I got the mill to sell the girls and gave the frozen males to a raptor rescue.

I would look at hatching Cream Legbars- blue eggs and autosexing so you can charge more for the females.

I was thinking about auto sexing originally, but them what happens when I figure out they are all males? I will look into cream legbars!
