Separating Chickens and Ducks

I had two chicks with two ducklings for 2 1/2 months. It wasn’t ideal to have them together in the first place but here we are.

I finally separated them today and the ducks - especially the female - is beside herself. Quacking all day, just staring at the chicken run. The male is also upset but not like her.

Please tell me ducks don’t have some super-bond and I’m breaking her heart. The chickens seem to be moving on but she is just pitiful and I feel horrible.

It might take a couple of days, but she'll catch on she's still got the male duck to hang around with. Ours seem to take about three/four days to get used to anything new or different.

Ducks do make bonds, but these bonds change with time. Your ducks have each other, they will get through the change.
