He passed away. I dont know why? He just got skinny out of nowhere but he had unlimited feed. He didnt seem sick at all.

You never know why a bird dies sometimes.

Thought I'd give an update on the EE chick I found after my swap. Its eyes were very weepy and closed mostly and it looked like it was really struggling to breathe. I gave it a low dose antibiotic that was for respiratory infections in poultry for 4/5 days. It seemed to be doing really well. The weepy eyes were pretty well cleared up and it was breathing better, back on regular water with its medicated feed. I went out one morning to check on all the birds and their feed and give them fresh water, when I went to check on the EE chick it couldn't stand up and couldn't hold its head up. I managed to get it to drink some water with vitamins and electrolytes and I have been feeding it medicated chick mash. It's doing better again and eating the medicated crumbles and drinking on its own again. It seems to walk ok but still isn't holding its head upright yet but is improving. Maybe it had a stroke... If this chick survives, it will be a miracle.

if anyone has heard of a japanese shamo? shamu?( one of those) left the paper at the feed store....i have a couple extra chicks. hadn't heard of them, so the guy pulled up a book. ok, just about the ugliest thing i've ever seen that's impostering as a chicken. had to buy them...just to see if they were as ugly as the picture (and im talking uglier then a turken ((is that possible?))) anyhoo....only a week old...but if anyone is interested, i can sell 3 of them for 10 dollars and you can grow them up and see for yourself! they already as chicks have really long necks

Are the polish standards? How is the lacing? Our 4H judge follows the standards closely for the fair, and my polish I hatched are missing on the lacing. If I can joing you, I have some BLRW and EE roos.

i can get a pic of the parents if you want and see if i can post them. they're not my chicks, but the guy is like 4 miles away from me. i'm not a polish expert, but the male he brought to the local chicken swap was gorgeous. ok, i think all polish are gorgeous....but i will see if i can get there tonight and get a pic of the adults on property for you. i will also take a pic of the 4 chicks i have in the feed store that are his that are a month old or a little younger. if you like the pic just tell me what age / color you're interested in so i can go get them from him.

ms dawn, did you have any luck with those australorp??? and of those 3 last olive eggers you gave me....1 was a hen

but she will be a cherished hen. i'm breeding pebbles (the original olive egger i bought from you) back to my bcm roo...and the babies are gorgeous.....lots more gold....lots more feathers on their feet......really cool....and i can't keep those babies to grow one out if my life depended on it. they go as quick as they hatch. do you think the eggs just get a darker green or turn brown eventually?

Poor lil guy!!! Good thing he found you..

Cmom, have you tried Tylan, or Tylosine tartate (same thing, but usually less expensive). It targets upper respiratory issues. I would add probiotics into the diet such as yogurt to help replenish the good bacteria. You sure are working hard on that chick, I hope it makes it for you.
