is that what was going on? are they crazy?? that cuts the sales down when its only us. seems kind of stupid to me, i thought they were checking to make sure the sellers were members, why dont they then do what other groups do and charge non members,

We are about 5 minutes south of Keene NH. Cheshire horse is on route 10 in west Swanzey, Agway is on corner of route 12 and route 9 in Keene, and Blue Seal is downtown Keene (limited parking because of all the construction going on). Cheshire horse is a new gorgeous store...but not the most approachable. Agway has had a chicken group meet there a few times...they post flyers but not sure how they feel about an actual swap. How did you Milford ladies handle the 'biosecurity' fears with the store owners? Or was it not mentioned?

I can do something in the Cheshire Horse area. LOL
Always up for a trip that brings me near them!

Let me know and I will be there with fudge, as long as the date doesnt clash with other events.

How do you all feel if we do this again in Milford or here in Cheshire County that we should maybe have hand outs on chicken care etc? I spoke with a TON of people Sunday who were new to chickens and asked me a ton of questions. Maybe instead of a sellers fee we design a brochure that ALL sellers must print out and give to each customer with each bird they sell. Maybe the BYC brochure will be sufficient....it touches on biosecurity issues too, housing, feed, care, and commitment an individual must make when becoming chicken owners?? Spreading the good work and knowledge BYC has started should take precedence over making a buck....I'm still just a babe myself...cannot even tell my roo's from hens and learning something new about chickens everyday...and I'm 2 years into my second flock!! I think we could really spread some knowledge and by asking the sellers to help educate others...that is the least we can do. I told everyone about BYC that asked me anything about chickens...said if they had any questions to come on over to this forum and look 'er up.

i think, if you go to the first chickenstock link, frozen feathers made up a great flyer and we printed them out and gave them out at the first swap. not sure why we didnt do it again this time. cheryl and i let that slip. but your all welcome to do so. i forget my head sometimes!!

i can say for me, i am not crazy about making this all about byc, cheryl and i belong to more than 1 chicken site, and i more than one local poultry group. and its not all about making a buck,
it was about getting chicken enthusiast together to meet and see what other breeds are available in the nh area. and adding a brocure is a great idea.
i have tons of email replies that i answered from my ads on craigslist, unclehenrys etc, so i know that that brought a lot of people in that arent members here! i will go look for the link to those flyers.

i think tsc is awesome for allowing us to use their property, it benefits them as well. and to have cover incase of rain is a great thing too.

U know...I think Cheshire Horse is the best place. They are NEW and I bet they would jump on this. They have this huge feed warehouse beside their store and plenty of parking...and a BATHROOM!! LOL I'm not stuck on BYC...just thought we'd plagiarize their brochure! LOL Did you all invite all the 4H'ers and Chicken Groups you are members in? Maybe some others like Siz can help connect with local groups like that. I know you all used craigslist....most everyone I spoke to said they read about it on craigslist. Should we just keep it simple and use craigslist and post flyers?

Ok...I'm going to call Cheshire horse and pitch the idea. Does anyone here know the owner?? Siz?

WAIT...before I call...WHAT Saturday should we shoot for? I say 2nd Saturday in November...LAST DITCH Swap for the season?

I had a great time on Sunday. TSC was great for letting us set up in their stock room. I sold all 16 chickens that I brought, and came home with 2 new chicks and 2 new pullets! Must Be Losing It, the little cochin is doing great and has become best buddies with the little bufff silkie baby I got from chickn. My little Antwerp pullet is settling in. She is such a sweetie and calms right down whenever I pick her up. And my buff laced polish girl is doing well, too. I got two beautiful dream catchers from Spotted Crow - a chicken one for my kitchen and a Halloween one for my daughter (who loves the frog and bat beads). Thanks to everyone that helped organize the event and make it so much fun. See you next time!

Edit: Just wanted to add that Milford works out great for me!
