Also as you said they were shipped how were the air cells? If they have bad air cells(aka detached) I would consider not candling them and being as hands off as possible until day ten or so. We just lost five eggs on day 8 after candling day seven and I believe the air cells(some were loose) and of course shipping may have played a part. We went from 6 overnight to two

That I do. I have chickenitis really bad. But I use the excuse of being able to sell off the extra babies that I don't want to keep. I really don't expect all to hatch though, the last hatches I've had only had about an 65 to 74% hatch rate. The fertility gas been running around 93 to 94 %, but some reason or other they seem to either quit early or die right before hatching. Anyway wish me well in this one.
If the chick is straightening them out on its own most of the time, you probably don't need the boots. Curling some of the time is fine, they do that until they can control their cute little toes. How's it doing now??
