I've had the worst morning...
Yesterday I put my 11 Ayam Cemani eggs into the hatcher--11 were alive and moving. One had already internally pipped and 3 others looked like they were on the verge. In the middle of the night I checked on the eggs and 2 had externally pipped but not the one with the internal pip. At breakfast the one that had internally pipped yesterday morning still hadn't externally pipped and I became worried. I've lost a chick to suffocation before. So, I decided to put a small hole in the egg to allow some fresh air.
At that time I candled the remaining eggs to check for pips...one egg had no movement. I put a small hole in the end and looked in--no internal pip and it was dead. I hatched it and it was filled with jello consistency yellow fluid and some unabsorbed yolk. :-(
So, 6 hours passed since I put the hole in my yesterday internal pipper and no progress. I decide to see if the chick is stuck and it is....I can see the membranes stuck. I decided to go ahead and assist it like I've done countless times before(with no ill effects to the chick). Well, this chick is also swimming in the same thick, glueish like yellow fluid. I've never seen this before in full term eggs and now I have 2 in the same batch!! This chick also has a partially unabsorbed yolk. So, I get it out and it dies within 5 minutes--no breathing, no movement! :-( This has NEVER happened to me!! I carefully place into a bag and leave the room. 20 min later I come back to check the dead chick over to see if has any white feathers...and I see it's chest move!!! WTH?!?!?! So, I try to resuscitate it....it lives for another 30min and then dies...AGAIN...FOR REAL?!?! I have to relive it's death twice....
Anyway...I don't know what's up with these eggs but it seems like the chicks feel they are ready to hatch but the evidence says otherwise. Of course these were REALLY REALLY expensive eggs...Just blah....
