September 2015 Hatch-A-long!!

I love sebrights and OEGBs, I have both and they are awesome. I'd love to see how the birchen modern and sebright chick turns out to be.

I'm so sorry about the chicks you lost, I'm glad that some of them survived and are doing well.

AWESOME!!!

Nice! What color are your sebrights and OEGBs? That little mix chick is already getting longer legs, and standing more upright. Its a friendly little chick. I'll post more pics as it changes.

I've had the worst morning...

Yesterday I put my 11 Ayam Cemani eggs into the hatcher--11 were alive and moving. One had already internally pipped and 3 others looked like they were on the verge. In the middle of the night I checked on the eggs and 2 had externally pipped but not the one with the internal pip. At breakfast the one that had internally pipped yesterday morning still hadn't externally pipped and I became worried. I've lost a chick to suffocation before. So, I decided to put a small hole in the egg to allow some fresh air.

At that time I candled the remaining eggs to check for pips...one egg had no movement. I put a small hole in the end and looked in--no internal pip and it was dead. I hatched it and it was filled with jello consistency yellow fluid and some unabsorbed yolk. :-(

So, 6 hours passed since I put the hole in my yesterday internal pipper and no progress. I decide to see if the chick is stuck and it is....I can see the membranes stuck. I decided to go ahead and assist it like I've done countless times before(with no ill effects to the chick). Well, this chick is also swimming in the same thick, glueish like yellow fluid. I've never seen this before in full term eggs and now I have 2 in the same batch!! This chick also has a partially unabsorbed yolk. So, I get it out and it dies within 5 minutes--no breathing, no movement! :-( This has NEVER happened to me!! I carefully place into a bag and leave the room. 20 min later I come back to check the dead chick over to see if has any white feathers...and I see it's chest move!!! WTH?!?!?! So, I try to resuscitate it....it lives for another 30min and then dies...AGAIN...FOR REAL?!?! I have to relive it's death twice....

Anyway...I don't know what's up with these eggs but it seems like the chicks feel they are ready to hatch but the evidence says otherwise. Of course these were REALLY REALLY expensive eggs...Just blah....

I believe that sticky goo is usually from humidity fluctuations throughout incubation. I'm so sorry about the one that died on you. I had that happen too, and its just awful. Hoping for the best for the rest!

Ugh... :-( Of course this happens with the expensive eggs! Now I'm worried this will be a problem with all the other eggs. This is a new experience for me, should I check my other external pippers and see if they have the same fluid or just leave them alone and hope for the best?

I guess I feel a bit better knowing that it probably would have died if it had tried to zip because it would have drowned for sure. Boo

Personally, I'd wait and let them do their thing, but I've never hatched AC's before.... Good luck!

I have both Golden and Silver Sebrights, as well as multiple sebright mixes (both golden and silver) as I am working on a mix-breed that involves the species. It also involves OEGBs, but I only have two of those that are pure, Silver duckwing and Red Pyle.

Here are my Golden Sebright/Silver Duckwing OEGB mixes

Here is a Red Pyle OEGB, Silver Sebright, and silkie mix

Here are three of my Silver Sebright chicks (Spock, Linnaeus, and Diamond)

I am so sorry. This has happened to me before and it is always so hard. The chicks are weak and you can just tell that they won't make it. I try my best, and they keep acting dead and then breathing again and it is so terrible.

How are the other eggs doing?

Ohhh nooooo I feel so bad!!!! You're my hatching buddy and have my little ones brothers and sisters. My heart is broken for you. We've been so excited to have our Ayams hatch at the rate we've payed for them. I'm praying for you and the rest!!! Baby says best of luck....

Well, I decided to quickly prop all the eggs up along the side of the incubator in hopes any excess fluid will flow down to the bottom. They've all internally pipped now...I have 3 externally pipped and I propped them up as well. I think that's the best I can do...
