Went to our local pharmacy, this was on sale for 75% off!!!

At 5 bucks, we bought two! One for the chicks and one for outside. Maybe I'll put cardboard around then mesh on top to keep them in, if anyone has any ideas or recommendations id apreciate it. We keep chicks in the garage so it won't be chilly, plus should be plenty space for the chicks I am keeping :)
I've been trying to get a melon box but I've asked everywhere around me and the only place that said they'd give me one won't have one for like another month or two.

Brilliant! I saw those outside the Rite-Aid for 75% off, too. I would have gotten one, but I have one that was my daughter's play pool from 2 years ago. It's pretty well indestructible and has been a wonderful brooder. I did put a cardboard "wall" around it that was high enough that I didn't need a mesh cover. I used old moving boxes.

Great deal you found.

Japanese quail are so cute!!! Two hatched before dawn, one at breakfast, four at lunch, and three more in the afternoon. Still waiting for six little eggs, but these darlings are adorable. I read that quail need to move to the brooder sooner, so I took them out. They are eating chick food and boiled egg yolks already.

Yeah that's where I got it! Was picking up some other things so thought it wouldn't hurt to try something new especially if it'll be easier to clean :D I'll definetly have to put up walls, you're right! Once they get their wing feathers they love testing them.
Hopefully I can find enough cardboard to make it tall enough. I don't think I have any more chicken wire and don't wanna go buy some (at least my hobby will never reach the expense of my bfs car addiction hah! Or at least for now) :/ definetly don't want to have a fire hazard by putting a fabric near the lamp, so wish I could afford an ecoglow!

Candles tonight. Have at least 2 for sure growing veins and one that I doubt is developing. 7 set I the hatch, guessing I'll make it to lockdown with 5 viable. These were not shipped eggs so I'm figuring on better odds than my last (1/4)

SO Adorable!!!!

I haven't had quail since I was a kid. Now I wanna hatch some!! but I also want to raise an ornamental pheasant or two again.
I want to break my husband into keeping birds gently, and he may freak out if I get chicken, pheasants and quail over a short time period.

I remember when I used to raise quail! They are like popcorn when hatching!! And they are little speed demons trying to catch them, but so gosh darn cute and small! So precious, and love the eggs too. Hope the rest hatch out soon to join the rest :D I love that your whites will have some brown spots like Dalmatian chicks haha!

Hahaha, yeah... if I had a husband, I don't know that I could sneaked in two chicks, a peafowl, a dozen or so quail and a great big rescued boxer dog within the space of a month.

How fun that you had quail as a kid! We had ducks.

Oh, they are like popcorn! They even "pop" straight up in the air at times. They are such little cuties, agreed. And one white has a little beauty spot on her tush - she is easy to identify.

Not looking so good for the other six eggs, I think. They are very still. One is half zipped and has been sitting like that for hours.

I'll keep checking on those last eggs during the night. Grateful for my ten healthy quail, though!

As a kid we had ducks, quail and pheasants... we didn't get chickens until I was a teenager and stole a chick from the local grocery store right around easter
