September Hatch-a-long!

Pics
 I set 12 more eggs in my incubator again.
I'm doing the same thing this afternoon; I have every intention of hatching every Silverudd's blues and Ayam Cemani eggs I can throughout the entire winter. I only have a pair of each, and I'd like to have at least 4 females of each. My AC girl has been trying-unsuccessfully- to go broody ever since she laid her first egg this summer. She is FINALLY laying again, so I am testing out 5 of her eggs. They're getting normal-sized now, so I might be able to get them to hatch at last.

So, I'll be adding 5 AC eggs and about 8 SB's.
Speaking of the SB's- here are the first two hatched successfully from my young girl (she's still under 1 year old, barely) last week. I have a splash boy and a blue girl, but these two are very light. They might take after Daddy. (I also have a couple quail chicks in there-fast little things)

I candled tathe few eggs I can see into yesterday to check air cells since my hygrometer is off. It looks like we're pretty much on track. Lockdown is Friday night :weeI think I need a silkie for future hatches, I'm not thrilled babysitting the bator. Maybe I'll get one or two bantams to hatch my quail eggs. Hmmm

You better get 2 so they can keep each other company because you might have to keep the banties away from the bigger standard sized ones.

Those 2 blue eggs that I marked and gave to my broody are due to hatch on the 18th. I brought them in the house last night to candle them, added them to my incubator overnight, and then gave them back to her today. Both are developing.
How do you see inside the blue eggs? I can't see anything at all! I've tried pretty powerful lights and still can't see!

I use an egg candler that I bought from Amazon to candle mine. My blue eggs are a light blue from Crested Cream Legbar hens. Hold the egg up, and shine the candler into the small end of the egg. You will be able to see if there are veins growing in them, and as they grow a bit, you will be able to see them move, trying to get away from the bright light.

That's the candler I bought for this batch. Lock down commenced on 7 eggs as of 07: 30 this morning :fl:fl:fl
