First chookie hatched! & 2 more pipped! Yay!
Either I’ve completely lost the plot or these little guys are a running a day or two early - & im not remotely prepared.... best go warm up the brooder....

Lock down about a half hour ago, went to check on the humidity and caught 3 wiggling!

Due to some family health issues I wasn't able to candle until this morning. Two of the blue eggs are early quitters, the clear one still hasn't progressed and all of the rest are doing well. Three float tests later confirmed the duds. All of the other eggs are quite the little movers! One of the maran eggs air cell looks weird. The air cell starts in the middle of the big end of the egg and go's down lower than the rest of the eggs. Could this be a problem during hatching? I'll get some pictures of it later.

This is the first time I've been able to get on due to our fair.
Sunday morning, the power went out, so I had to wrap a blanket around the brooder and try to keep the incubator warm with candles, hot pads, boiled rocks, and towels. Thankfully it came back on in just over an hour, but I was worried that it may have killed the eggs. I can't be sure that it didn't kill some of them, but when I checked this morning, some of them were definitely moving. We'll see how many hatch in a couple of days.

Our local FFA chapter is going to do an incubation unit and incubate a few backyard mix eggs in the classroom! This could be the start of s whole new generation of hatch a holics..... lol
