September Hatch-A-Long!

Eggtopsy is done. of my 6 starting eggs, 1 was infertile, 2 were quitters, 2 were misaligned with one having its head tucked into its belly angled more towards the pointy end (the one I tried to help) and the other completely turned towards the pointy end. The last one was in the perfect position, internally pipped, membrane was good and it looked like all the veins were gone, most of the yolk absorbed so not sure what happened.

Im sorry

Updated pictures of some past hatched chicks.

First picture is Sally but Sally is looking more like a Sal every day. 2 & 3 Cochin bantam Frizzles

This is Jack. The one with a bad leg. He's doing great. He looks like a little eagle.

2nd night poop free. Yeah Max! She has been holding it all night. Maybe, after awhile, she will hold it without the Jammies. I woke up this morning with a Max on my face. I hope she doen't do that when she is 25 lbs. She has been spend more time each day running around the floor. Every once in awhile she will call me. If I don't answer she'll run out into the open and keep calling until I do, then go back to exploring. When she is done, she calls me, I call back, put my hand on the floor and she comes running. If she isn't ready, she will avoid me. If I hold food out, she will tackle my hand to get it. I wish there was a way to video this stuff but I haven't been able to get my dog to hold the phone steady.

I have read some of you hatch with your eggs in the egg carton. I have tried this 3 times and I have had the same problem each time, 2 problems actually. Some of the chicks end up pipping in the middle of the air cell and can't reach the shell tp pip out but the other problem affects the hatched chicks. They always sit in the carton after hatching. Then they can't walk properly because it messes with their legs sitting in that funny postion for so long. Their legs stick out straight in front of them and they stay on their butts. Has anyone else had this problem? What can I do about it? I have taken them all out even thou the hatch isn't done. I am hoping the damage isn't permanent.

hi,
I hatch in cartons all the time..........and they always get out no problem. I think there is another cause for the leg problems and they cannot get out because of this.
I just read something about this and now cannot remember where...I'll try to find it. But the leg problems were caused either by temp or humidity issues????????

They get out ok most of the time. Walk around, their legs are fine but htey like to sleep in the cartons. Then stay there for awhile hold their legs in an odd position. When I move them to the brooder they can't walk any more. This has happened with 3 different breeds from 3 different breeders. The smaller the chick the worse it is.

At first I thought it ws so cute. All the little chicks in the carton. This time I left them in there for awhile until they dried. Much worse. I am hoping that since they are young it will clear up on it's own. One is much worse than the others and it can't get around at all. I put it back into the incubator because the other chicks push it out from under the heat lamp.
