September Hatch-A-Long!

Thought Id share about what I'm hatching!
I got some babies to hatch out early September, silkies and AMs- both shipped. Unfortunately some of the AMs are very porous and didnt develop at all. And 2 silkie eggs had detached air cells. Only 8 days to go until hatch day!

Ok I was in the August hatch along with my first hatch and something went wrong with the bator (lg still air)

0 outta 30 eggs so devastating

so I got a new to me bator (Hova-bator 1583) at a local hatchery (great deal

) so we are gonna try this again for my second hatch and I want to give my eggs the best possible chance this time so I have a few questions do you wash your eggs before setting them? if you do, do you wash with anything special? how long do you let them dry before putting them in etc..... If I have to wait a day or two do I turn them while i'm waiting to put them in the bator? I'm sorry if these are stupid questions

but for my kids sake I really want some chicks to hatch they were so upset last time and I love the new bator with the picture window so much easier to see

anyways I know all the great "peeps" on her will help me out with great advice

TIA
it's gonna bet so great this time!

You don't want to wash the eggs at all, I get an AWESOME hatch with my Hovabator Genesis so hope you have good luck too :D Make sure you store them pointy side down and turn them at least once or twice a day while gathering them for hatching and it's best if they are 10 days or less old when going into the incubator :) Did you get an automatic turner? I use my auto turner outside of the incubator and sit the eggs in it with it plugged in while I wait for the incubator to stabilize :) I also put mine in cardboard carton bottoms, pointy side down, when they go into lockdown and get a lot better hatch rate.

Just set 16 Swedish Flower Hen eggs (again!! great little birds, but helping out someone who lost a lot of his flock with our first hatch, now some for us!!!!!). Trying to convince DH I need some more, marans would be nice (a tough sale, since we are getting some chicks soon). Just have to see what looks good!!!!!! Happy hatching everyone!!!!

No washing. It can force bacteria into the eggs through the poors anc will remove the bloom which is the protective cover on the eggs. I've got my fingers crossed for you this month! And I kinda turn mine. Like once a day I tilt the carton they are in to the oposite side if that makes sense lol.
