September Hatch-A-Long!

How many of you hatch in egg cartons? How bout just laying the eggs on their sides? I cannot decide which way to do it. Can the temp on the floor of incubator really vary so much from the temp where egg turner is? I read it can kill the chicks from being too low? Im only on day 10 but im worrying about lockdown!!!

to my knowledge those that hatch in cartons do it to alleviate some of the mess in the bator...I don't bother....I just lay them down out of the turner and let um hatch! after they all hatch I take it out side and wash it all up!

After doing a ton of reading on egg cartons vs laying on the floor, I opted for the egg carton.
I liked it. Lots more room for the chicks to move around. No significant "trash" to navigate, from already hatched eggs.
Eggs don't get knocked around.
I noticed the chicks had to work a bit more to get out of the egg, but I'm not so sure that wasn't a good thing.
They just didn't come free of the egg until they were ready.

well today so far 2 guineas have hatched and another is zipping....they were set on aug. 16th so they are 3 days early....I kinda hope my cream legbars hatch a tad soon!! I'm looking forward to those

I want cream legbars!!!
I was bidding on them for this hatch and upped my bid pretty good a couple minutes before the auction ended. Had to deal with my kids came back and already lost :(

if you think about what the eggs and chicks go through under a hen then you won't worry so much lol...... I guarantee that the mama hens don't stand the eggs up pointy end down with a hole cut in the bottom of her nest......I've had them hatch in the egg turner at 25% humidity because I didn't expect them!!

One of my turkeys hatched! It was a strange one. 2 days early, he pipped, began to zip and then stopped. Then, nothing for 32 hours. Now he is out, but he doesn't look too happy. He is just lying there looking exhausted. If he hears me, he peeps and moves his legs, but nothing else. He is still all wet. It's been three hours since his hatch, but 36 hours since his first pip. Is this normal? Will he just lie there for hours? Should I get him out of the incubator (and give food and water) as soon as he is dry, despite one other egg still being in there? Day 0 is tonight/tomorrow at 2am.

It is my first turkey (and my first hatch, period) so I don't know if he is acting normally or not.

Please help!

Okay I definitely need a brighter light but I candled and it looks like 5 of the 6 are fertile. To dark/early to see veins on the dark shelled eggs but the one white has definite veins!!

Tomorrow is the day that I start my lock down and wait. Should know how my 4 eggs are going to do by this weekend, have my fingers crossed.
