Hello cyber peeps. What do I do with so many chicks? I had such poor hatch rates in the beginging, I started buying more eggs to be sure I got 1 or 2 to hatch. Now I have chicks everywhere. Especially Bantam Chochins. I have also hatched some for friends but they aren't quite old enough to go outside yet. 58 chicks in 3 brooders in my laundry room. I posted my first chick ad on Craigs List. Now whow do I decide who I can let go? I love them all. This is too hard. I am still waiting on 2 more Orpingtons. Come on guys, there is a line for the hatcher and your turn is up.

ok so hubby just finished explaining just how low the temps were when he found them... one bator was 86....hacher was down to 92 and 89... so what are my chances??? i dont think it was for very long. i candled an egg thats on about day 7 and still had movement...

DAY 7..WOOHOOOOO..that was the longest week ever. Now..to candle or not to candle. I want to so bad but my eggs are medium brown and ive read (in this thread of course!) that day 8,9,10 would be better. I just dont know if i can hold out another 2-3 days.

Any day 7s out there??? Please join in and help this impatient obsessed 1st time hatcher get through the next 2 weeks!

I say candle them today, then again in 2-3 days. Lol I candled mine every 2-3 days starting day 5. I couldn't stand it, I HAD to!! Think week 1 was long? Week 3 is MURDER!!

Hello.  My name is Deanna.  I am a chick-a-holic.  Here is the story of my addiction.

One day I decided I wanted one chick to have as a house chicken.  But had to buy 6 minimum.  Since I had to build a coop for 6, I built it big enough for more, just in case.  I went to buy 2 more chicks, ended up with 8 more.  While researching how to care for chickens, I found this thread (June actually).  It was so addicting.  I read about people building their own incubators.  So I had to see if I could do it.  It holds 18 eggs.  During the 3 weeks they were incubating, I kept up with this thread and read about all of the different kinds of chickens.  I thought I would pick the one best kind, order a dozen for the incubator after the first ones hatched but the eggs took too long and I had to quickly buy another incubator for the eggs that came in the mail.  Now I had all of this extra room in there, it held 5 dozen.  Ordered more eggs but the store incubator didn't work so well.  I built a better larger one.  It was so easy, I built another.  And so goes my spiral down into the depths of uncontrollable hatching.  Chicks taking over my house.  Soon I will be sleeping on the porch.  It's all so terri.... Another chick hatched!  Got to go!

lol there's so many of us, the world might be overrun by chicks one day not just our houses. My bator is in the master bedroom n the coffee table is a glass top brooder. Refreshing to know there's so many more of us.

Ok since my 1st hatch was a complete loss started with 9 eggs . I had to account for humidity and temp issues along the way , I believe I had it to low at the beggining ,Ended up with 2 eggs at the end . So On day 26 I pipped them and Only 1 went the long haul but I died before it pipped . I couldnt get the humidity up past 60 so , I spent a few days this week making my adjustments . Today im confidant , Im all set for a September Hatch Along . I just set 26 home grown eggs 11 Leghorns (some brown and cali whites ) and 15 that are possibly silkie ,Russian Orloff and RIR/polish mix . Wish me luck!
