September Hatch-A-Long!

So little Pip seems to be having some issues. First he wasn't drying out because of the high humidity in the bator, so I have him in a nice warm dry place, because I can't stick him in the brooder with my other chicks, because he isn't standing yet. That's my other problem, he can't stand up. It's been over 12 hours and he flops around on his side like a fish. He had a lot of yellow on him, which I'm assuming is yolk. So maybe something happened and it didn't get absorbed all the way and he is just really weak. I have made a vitamin and Karo water mix and give him a tiny drop here and there, but he isn't ready to swallow anything so I can't do more then that. Any suggestions? He is my only chick out of 26 eggs and my first ever hatched chick so I don't want to lose him :(
I don't know of too much you can do but wait. If its drinking ok, I usually take an egg yolk thinned with some warm water and maybe a sprinkle of vitamin/probiotic powder and suger and mix it all up and offer it in a spoon or dropper if they will take it.

For me (we all have our own methods) I snatch it, clip the cord, put some iodine on it and put it either back in to dry or into the brooder - where ever is cleanest and least likely to introduce infection to the cord/naval.
I clipped it when it dried and put some bactrin on it and he's good to go hope that was alright to use

Hi,
I do not want to give you false hope.but will share my latest that has turned out good.
I posted about my last chick...............day25 assisted.........it never would have made it out on it's own because it was so huge.
I did not think it had a chance....to lethargic................Every time I would check on it, I thought it was gone......laying on it's side,
one leg in the air and no interest in getting up.. After three days it was getting up a litte............day5 walking around but still really slow like no energy.
This morning the little devil is making up for lost time.....made me LOL watching it pecking food and drinking.
So give it some time.....I hope it gains strength.................

hopefully a few more tonight would be great!! Nothing on the twins I have a feeling they didn't make it but I will give them till tonight to candle and see what's going on. Congrats to everybody with hatches can't wait to see pics. Here is my bunch a peeps

In my experience when I have membrane staining it is the result of the chick trying to pip and hitting a small vein. Then they are still to prevent further damage, they absorb everything if they survived the bleed and then only start hatching again when they are totally done. If it was too big a vein and too much blood then you will eventually know becuase they will bleed out and get no further - in that case there is unfortunately nothing you can do. Its luck of the draw. I have lost several perfect chicks just because their pip happened to hit a major vein :( Its so sad. I hope it was a tiny bleed and your smart chick is just healing and waiting to hatch :fl

Thank you for that. That's really informative. I got home from work tonight to find it had barely gotten any further. I was gonna leave it a couple more hours and maybe help him out. But there is no need, he has started zipping! :weee
It will be another long night but hopefully he will be joining the others in the morning.

lockdown in two hours. Anyone have a suggestion for humidty? It ran 40-45% the first 9 days and between 35-39% the last nine days. Not sure what to put it at.
