September Hatch-A-Long!

lockdown in two hours. Anyone have a suggestion for humidty? It ran 40-45% the first 9 days and between 35-39% the last nine days. Not sure what to put it at.

That's similar to mine. My incubator has been around 65-70% since lockdown and 7/13 hatched in two days with no problems, 3 were removed and there are still 3 in on day 24, one of them are trying to hatch as we speak!

I'd say about 60 then slowly raise it if possible to about 70 at day 21 but not much over.

Thanks! I was kinda panicking as it got closer to lockdown time and I had no idea what to put it at. All the article's range on the best lockdown humidity so I figured I'd just go with the hatchers here! lol

Thanks

Now to wait and see if it will carry the frizzle gene or not..

well my 3 week old blue cochin passed this morning...no apparent reason just stopped thriving...I tried to keep it nourished but it wasn't interested in food...it stopped growing feathers or very few...that seems to be a pattern as they are starting to wan

looks like 3 is all i will get out of these and one is doing bad dont know if it will make it dont know what happened it pipped and zipped fine but once it zipped its just laying there every once in a while it spins around or rolls over....(maybe its deformed or some thing it has HUGE feet)

Well my final fluffy butt count is 20 outta 28

which is better than I expected since last hatch was 0. I had a few at the end that were shrink wrapped the others came out with out a problem there was one that pipped the vein and my twins didn't make it I think they ran outta room because they were jammed in there their was not even a air sac left and they hadn't pipped and still had good size yolks

but all in I am very proud of myself very first time assisting they both pipped wrong end one through the yolk and both are doing very well you can't tell them apart from the other guys besides the fact that they look alike. and hopefully

they continue to thrive. I also taped curled toes It was a night and day of many first for me. Hopefully her feet straighten out she is the cutest little chick but I do have my favorite I'm defiantly keeping him now I have to pick out which other ones I want. My mom is taking a few and then the rest will go up to a farmer in the mountains that lost about 20 chickens to fox over the past month. Now that I'm addicted what should I hatch next???????????

Congrats to all the new little peep parents. Good luck to those who are expecting

So little Pip seems to be having some issues. First he wasn't drying out because of the high humidity in the bator, so I have him in a nice warm dry place, because I can't stick him in the brooder with my other chicks, because he isn't standing yet. That's my other problem, he can't stand up. It's been over 12 hours and he flops around on his side like a fish. He had a lot of yellow on him, which I'm assuming is yolk. So maybe something happened and it didn't get absorbed all the way and he is just really weak. I have made a vitamin and Karo water mix and give him a tiny drop here and there, but he isn't ready to swallow anything so I can't do more then that. Any suggestions? He is my only chick out of 26 eggs and my first ever hatched chick so I don't want to lose him :(

Tara, just getting back..how is the chickie?

Have you tried Vitamin E? Pop the gel cap, squirt the oil out, apply to side of beak and/or in the water/food and feed if possible.
This helps newly hatched chicks who are weak or showing signs of wry neck.
Repeat daily for 3 to 5 days, They usually just "snap" right out of it...PM me if you like...:fl Chirp
