September Hatch-A-Long!

The little one didn't make it. I was terrified of making any more bleeds so I left it alone except to rewet the paper towel, even after I thought it was gone. Finally accepted that it was gone and opened up slowly. The baby was, in fact, wrongly positioned with its head tucked against its belly pointing towards the small end.
Aw, I am sorry. I was afraid that might be the case. I hope that the others are not the same :( Keeping my fingers crossed for you :fl

Thanks. I'm doing the 'set and forget' on them. Just checking humidity and letting nature take its course. This incident has 100% scared me off freaking out and thinking I need to 'help'. Lesson learned I guess.

If it makes you feel any better, there is almost no chance that baby would have survived in that position even if you hadn't helped. When their head is tucked into their belly like that there is no way to pip and so no way to get oxygen once they run out internally. You tried your best, and it was probably the ONLY chance that little one would have had :hugs You did nothing wrong.

Kyochan. I am sorry bout your little one. I had one in this hatch that had its head tucked down into it's stomach. I could not find the head and it could not get air and died. This is my hatch it was my first try at hatching. Iput 63 in at lockdown and 58 made it.

Thanks. You guys really are helping keep the guilt at bay and oh my those babies are so adorable! I wish I could get some pretty pretties but all of mine look like my little one 'Turkey'

Here are the first 5 that hatch between yesterday and today! There are 3 more that are coming along in the incubator , I just helped a silkie baby hatch , it was trying to hatch since early this morning and the membrane was drying out and she needed a little help . I tried not to interfere but I added a drop of water here and there and tweezers to break a piece of shell once in awhile .

Turkeys are beautiful, Max says so.

heehee! I know! However, My 'Turkey' is actually a cross mutt chicken who got into a fight with her siblings and had a lot of her feathers plucked out and she looked like my granny's old, haggard turkey, thus the name. Luckily they are all grown back in now but the name stuck with her :p Should have named her Goose though cause she's as mean as one towards other chickens. She's convinced she's a dog.
