September Hatch-A-Long!

this was the first hatch that tried the cupcake papers. They worked pretty well at catching all the little egg pieces. I reach in and grab it after they hatch and are all over the incubator... If I'm not here to get it, the contents usually gets spilled.

I have a very impoortant question.

How do you get your turkey to stop getting ice cream all over the computer? Max got yogurt on my phone while texting and ice cream all over my keyboard while she was on BYC. She promises to not eat on my computer but then my fingers stick to the keyboard and she runs and hides. Like I don't know it was her.

She helped my paint the chicken tracor. She supervised and ate paint. So she is forgiven for the moment.

Then we made her jammies so she can sleep with me, without leaving little surprises. Max's fashion show. The first one was a little too small. The second was just right but I forgot to put the liner in it so it is drying after being washed. Third Max is sleeping in tonight.

heehee! I know! However, My 'Turkey' is actually a cross mutt chicken who got into a fight with her siblings and had a lot of her feathers plucked out and she looked like my granny's old, haggard turkey, thus the name. Luckily they are all grown back in now but the name stuck with her :p Should have named her Goose though cause she's as mean as one towards other chickens. She's convinced she's a dog.

I have a parrot that barks and a dog and turkey that think they are human.

My last egg hatched - so another small but 100% hatch from my barnyard mutts :) This last one was from the RIW I no longer own and as with all her previous eggs it was malpositioned and had to be assisted but is out and doing fine now. I have 2 more batches on lockdown. More White Leghorn crosses and Marans crosses. I met a new neighbor who mentioned she had chickens - 3 roosters only, LOL! She is coming tomorrow to see about buying/adopting some of my "extra" chickens that I've decided to not keep for breeding next year. Yay for a good home and a lower feed bill, LOL!

A little light in the darkness! Woke up, felt cruddy, candled the eggs, one of the babies have internally pipped!!! I know it is much to soon to celebrate but ahhhhh!

Here are the first 5 that hatch between yesterday and today! There are 3 more that are coming along in the incubator , I just helped a silkie baby hatch , it was trying to hatch since early this morning and the membrane was drying out and she needed a little help . I tried not to interfere but I added a drop of water here and there and tweezers to break a piece of shell once in awhile .

what is the second from the bottom?

they are so sweet!!
