September Hatch-A-Long

Am I seeing only one head spot on the CCL's? You got only one boy!
I am hoping...I am pretty sure the first one hatched is a female. The spot is for sure a boy. The other is a Question mark. I need to get some better pictures of them but I was going to leave them alone for tonight.

Oh and I did crack open the last two eggs..One had been dead a while..Those eggs are hard to see in. My guess would have been around day 15 or 16. The other was fully developed but never absorbed the yolk...I think it died on day 18 or 19 it was also positioned wrong. ;-(. During this whole incubation the progression of the the air sack was not the best. I think my mistake was hatching two different breeds. I had my humidity between 30-40% the first 18 days. I think I will try and keep the humidity lower on my next hatch of clb and only incubate them and not another breed.

I have what is probably a dumb question, but what difference does it make whether you have one, two or ten breeds in an incubator?

Not a dumb question at all...
And, really, there is no difference. The only difference I've noticed is whether the eggs are bantam or standard. When I mix small and large eggs, the bigger ones always seem to hatch first. I figure its because they incubate a little hotter, but I dunno :)

I was making a complete guess. Those Cream Legbar eggs seem so thick and the Dominiques were not...i was guessing maybe a lower humidity would be better for the Creams so I could get a better air sack development. I am going to test this guess on my next hatch.

Ahhh. I understand now why you said that...Thanks good luck on them.

So I just put 12 eggs in the incubator. This will be my very first hatch. 4 serama frizzle eggs, and 8 Cochin frizzle eggs. Hopefully I'll get at least a few frizzled hens out of it! I'm wondering what method to use as far as humidity goes. I've read about the standard and dry method and wanted to know what has worked best for you? The woman I got the eggs fromkeeps her hhumidity at around 25% until day 18... Help! Not sure which way to go!

My chick that piped yesterday has unzipped but I am thinking that he/she isn't ready to hatch.. Both eyes are closed? I am leaving it alone for now since it technically isn't day 20 until around noon (it's only 3:22 am) Or is it normal for their eyes to be closed? Still breathing and chirping like crazy. I'm worried about helping, maybe it still has some yolk. membrane started to dry out and become white so I got a warm paper towel and wrapped the egg in that but other than that I haven;t intervened. Anything I can do?
