September Hatch-A-Long

Yesterday was day 7 for my RIR eggs in my bator that I ordered off ebay. I should have known this wasn't going to be a very successful batch as the eggs waited at the post office over the weekend when they were delivered. Arrrrg! Then when I picked them up they were not labled "eggs" or even "fragile". Candled them before setting and lots of detached air cells. Placed them anyway with careful positioning. Anyway ive ended up with 9 infertile eggs and 3 early quitters. I number all my eggs to keep track of each one and do eggtopsies on each one with no development. Ive sent these pics to the person I purchased the eggs from. I understand the low hatch rate on shipped eggs but the number of infertile ones got to me! Ive ordered shipped eggs before with a better hatch rate. Oh well...try try again. :-/

eggs came in mail today....
letting them sit several hours before they go in the 'bator. candled them and it looks like only 1 out of 14 eggs has a detached air cell. all arrived in good condition

im thinking of incubating most in cartons, and a few lying sideways as an experiment. I think I will have them all hatch out in cartons regardless

Candled my TJ's eggs this morning.... Nope.  All were clear and it's Day 6 for them.  Eggtopsy revealed most all not fertile, period.        Some  rooster is slacking or TJ's is just filling cartons willy-nilly with whatever's on hand.

I don't know how many you are trying to hatch but my chickens eggs are fertile. They are all mixed though. I'd send you some at no cost if you need some to hatch :) it would take me a few days to collect some fresh ones for you :)

That's quite a collection and quite a sweet offer. I'm going to hold my breath here for three days at lockdown and do the hatch-a-hen dance and chant and hope a little mojo lets me pack the bator away.

What color eggs do you think your crosses would lay?

I get brown from Henny Penny, pink green and blue from gaga it depends on her mood I guess lol and an olive color from Juliana. They are all large eggs but Juliana's are HUGE. I sometimes wonder how she does it... It's gotta hurt right? Lol
