September Hatch-A-Long

Ok. Today is day 22. Out of 13 eggs I had 11 hatch. All eight dominiques hatched and 3 cream legbars. The last two legbar eggs do not even have a pip yet. All the hatched are dried, so can I get them to the brooder now? I set 17 cream legbars from a local farm and 9 of my own dominiques. 1 dom egg was not fertile at day 14. The clb eggs were terrible. I had 5 non fertile, 5 blood rings and two that died between day 10 and day 14. They were just not developed like the rest. This is my first time hatching so I think all the reading and advice given really helped me because i have 11 healthy chicks staring at me. Here is my disappointment though. This hatch was all about the cream legbars..lol. I am going to try it again next Saturday. Friday I am picking up 12 eggs from another farm. Since the others are ready for the brooder can I remove them and let the last two eggs set for one more day?

Yes you can remove the chicks and I would recommend candling those last eggs to be sure you don't have late quitters.

Thanks I will get that done now!

Ok I have come to the conclusion that I the last two eggs are dead

. I candled neither had any movement or an internal pip. One had a blob of blood and the other lots of yolk. I also floated with no movement either. Can you tell I wanted those guys bad.

I'm glad you got so many chicks the first time and sorry more cream legbars didn't make it! That seems really wierd considering they were local... maybe they weren't very fresh or refrigerated or something?? Good plan getting more from another source!! I hope they do much better!

I guess it's officially day 21 now 3 weeks ago today I set 38 eggs at 3pm est of those we have 20 still "cooking". Nothing going on yet! I've been trying to do yard work instead of obcessing over a my eggs but still I can't wait for the fluffy butts!
