You have probably seen that thread, but this was done by a friend using her homemade incubator and my eggs (outside flock) a couple years ago. It is a great thread for hatching and candling. Everything I learned about hatching, I learned from her! She was very patient lol. Yes, they do sleep so don't worry. However, it does sometimes mean the chicks have died....but you just never really know till after the hatch. I usually mark mine without movement so I know. But honestly, by the time my eggs go into lockdown, I can't really see much movement at all so I don't worry and usually end up with lots of marked eggs!

Oh no I had some shipped eggs go in with my latest batch and only 1 developed, out of 10, and then quit on day 12. I was so glad I had some of my eggs in there too and got my 2 chicks out of it. Almost every single egg had at the very least a loose air cell. I think I'm done with shipped serama eggs for good. Luckily I have you close by! Hope you find some activity in those little guys.

I had the same problem with my hatch from Deb this time I had a LOT of broken air cells. Out of 36 eggs, I ended up with 3 babies. It was the same with yours too... I got 14 eggs (I think) ended up with 2 babies.. Such is life shipping eggs unfortunately.. I have gotten GREAT hatches before but more often they aren't good. Once I bought 12 Ameracana eggs, got 15 and had 11 hatch all the way from Colorado (I think). So that's pretty darn good! Luck of the draw and how they pack and are handled etc..

True....but on the flip side, there have been people who have hatched 9 for 9, 15 out of 24, etc etc from my eggs so I think there are just so many factors that go into hatching eggs, one of them being the shipping process. It is a gamble every time you incubate. I've had horrible hatches from my eggs too and they just get carried across the room! Broken air sacs though are from rough handling and there really isn't anyway to prevent it, no matter how well you pack them.

Yep that's what I was saying.. it's the luck of the draw.. Sometimes the PO and weather and packing and incubating are PERFECT and it's awesome and even if the packing and weather and incubating are great if the PO was a little rough.. then.. oh well. Eggs are amazing perfect little systems but they really aren't made to be shipped.. just to be laid, and rest in a nest with momma turning them and sitting on them until they hatch. Us humans make things so tricky.. LOL

They are not Castle Delight eggs, but they will be Castle Delight babies....I candled the eggs last night and out of 30, 11 are developing (4 early quitters I think)! Not great numbers but if you had seen the insides of these eggs, you'd be thrilled too

Fingers are crossed for them to make it....they will be miracle babies indeed.

I would have had 14 of 15 back in August if i would have gotten the humidity up or helped out sooner

On Wednesday I set 2 Othello, 2 Napoleon, 2 Gino and 1 Louis. With the exception of the Louis egg, it looks like all are developing! 1 Gino and 1 Napoleon might be developing a little slower, but there's definitely something going on in there. I also have one of my own eggs that looks like it is developing as well. Looking forward to a Valentine's Day hatch date

That is great news! I have 10 eggs developing, all set for a February 11th hatch!

I think I'm going to have to pull all Louis eggs for awhile....they show fertile when I open them but nothing happens with them. I might have to get him so new girls from my hatches.
