Seramas pipped but slowing down

Thanks.

So.... one is good, one has splayed leg, one has 5 toes and missing feathers on half its head and one didn't make it.

I did it in rounds. The first time I just let the beak stick out, then a few hours later i removed some of the hard outer shell to give them more wiggle room, then a few hours later helped them get their heads out. They did the rest from there.

They're in the brooder now, sleeping but I'll post more pictures

So sorry to hear about the chick that didn’t make it! :( That is so hard. Do you know how to fix the splay leg chick? I just had one a couple of weeks ago that I thought wouldn’t make it but within two days of treatment, it recovered completely. Very interesting about the chick without feathers on the head. Can’t wait to see more pics of your babies!

I did a little research and saw people making leg braces out of various materials and that sometimes it's a b vitamin thing. How did you treat yours?

Mine had feathered legs so I took a small bandaid (probably 2.5 inches long) and cut it in half lengthwise so I would have one long skinny piece for each leg. Then I wrapped the “cushion” part of the bandaid around the leg so that there was nothing sticky touching the leg. I then stuck the sticky part of the bandaid to itself in between the legs. I did this with both legs. Then I used a piece of tape to tape the two longer pieces together between the legs. I kept this brace on the chick for two days. He wiggled one leg out of it after about 24 hours so I made a new one and put it on. I noticed that he was walking so much better with the brace on so I took it off after 48 hours and he’s been totally fine ever since. I’ll grab a picture showing the brace.

Here are pics showing the brace and the progress. We did a tiny bit of cup therapy (with the brace on, only about 10-20 mins twice a day for those two days). I also gave some electrolytes that had b vitamins but honestly I don’t think enough to have made a difference.

Awesome thanks! They have been sleeping under the brooder plate all day. Should I bother messing with him before he even wants to walk around?

I was thinking if I check on them every couple hours and when I see them up I would do it. Maybe they are just really tired after the hatch?

IMO it’s better to do it before the chick “has” to eat and drink. (Usually they can go the first 48-72 hours without absolutely needing food.) So I recommend doing it sooner rather than later. I think I put the brace on my chick within the first 24 hours after hatch.

Something kinda funny....

I remembered the breeder I got them from also breeds showgirl silkies. The one missing feathers is her micro showgirl silkie!
