Serious Eye Infection in my silkie hen!!!!

My Chocolate Orpington Rooster, about 8 months old has a slight eye infection in one eye. I treated him with Tylan for a week and it is still there. He doesn't have signs of a sinus infection and he is not acting sick...Any suggestions? Could it be an eye worm?

I'm by no means an expert on eye infections but I had success with using an antibiotic drop Chloramphenicol and tylan in the water. My hen was pecked in the eye and took some weeks to recover.
I have no experience in the eye worm department so hopefully someone who does will weigh in.
Best of luck to you and your little orp xx

My Silkie rooster came as a baby with an eye infection in one eye. I have treated it for months! Eye ointment, eye drops, oral antibiotics and nothing worked. Even took him to the vet. Now I just wash it out twice a day. It gets little bubbles in the corner every day, but at least it's not oozing thick yellow pus anymore. It has not spread to the other eye or to any other chickens. His eye always gets dirt stuck to it or feathers.

Hmmm. I do know that respiratory infections can cause the bubbles and it is possible that the eye infection is secondary. I would keep her separate.
There are lots of different strains and symptoms can be very mild to severe. They don't have to present all of them.

Here's a link. Have a look at Mycroplasma.

Very best wishes to you both x

Hi
Don't know if your little chicken has been cured of her eye infection yet - sorry for late reply.
My silkie had a severe eye infection that lasted over 8 months - every day I cleaned her eye and pinched the goo out of it. My large animal vet tried the best she could with antibiotics but I finally brought her to an aviary vet - her put her on high dose of Clavamox and within 2 weeks she was 100% better - still took a second round but she's finally clear.
Good luck and don't give up.
Tish

Well considering some of my best hens look like they have it now, I will just have to start my own little chicken hospital! Ha! I'm praying the tylan will help
